First, let me preface this by saying that I will post photos of my new baby soon. Things have just been really busy with trying to get things done for our upcoming Ep and I just haven't had much free time. She hasn't even made her gig debut yet. However, I really can't describe how happy I am with the bass. Strung her up with a set of Fender flats and it's literally like heaven.

Now me to my question. My Custom Shop 55 Precision came with the standard single ply white guard. However, I thought it would be cool to do something special with it and my AVS 57 RI as they are both White Blonde. So I ordered matching bakelite style guards from WD for them. Now, WD makes a perfect fit for the 57. However, they only make a "Tele" bass guard for the single coils. Which will not fit the 55 Precision correctly.

So my question. Is there an on line custom guard maker that is known for being able to outfit the Custom Shop models, or can you order a guard from the CS?

Mike E. used to say (I think) sure you can order a pickguard from the Custom Shop, It's $3000 and it comes with a free guitar.

Hah, that's pretty funny. On the other hand it's pretty sad that Fender won't produce a replacement guard for a level of customer that spends thousands of dollars on their product but will produce a ton of them on customers who buy their overseas couple hundred dollar junk axes. I guess it's better to get quantity over quality. FMIC is the new CBS.

ON the plus side I just said to hell with it and started running her sans guard altogether. It works for Sting, and the white blonde has an eerie look with no guard. So no worries. She hasn't made her stage debut yet, but I think our next gig on the 22nd will be time. My AVS 57 is so dependable it's just been getting the nod and holding the number 1 spot. I think I'll break her in on the next rehearsal then it'll be time for the stage.

That is a really beautiful 55' Bass(nice amp too), looks like a match for my AVRS blonde 56' strat, I love the look of blonde finish with a white pickgaurd, although an gold anodized gaurd would like nice on the 57'.

I generally prefer the blackguard look. I've even changed my gold guard on my 57 to first a WD tort, and now a WD bakelite. They all look great. I just can't get along with the white guard personally, but I have to say as much as I was impressed with how great Sting's 53 looks in Sunburst with no guard. The white blonde is just that much more stunning. Someday I'll do a tracing and send it away to be made for her in bakelight and probably a few other materials. (probably gold anodized and maybe just the brushed aluminum like a worn old anodized guard) However, for now I'm really digging this look. The screwholes and finish chips from where the screws and guard were originally mounted give it character. It was used anyhow. As far as the instrument itself. It plays so well there are times I can't believe it. I can't believe how light and well balanced it is. How perfect it sounds. When people ask if it's worth the extra cash for a Custom Shop I simply tell them that as perfect a representation of a classic Fender as my AVS 57 is. As much as I could have played it til I died and been perfectly happy. The CS 55 is like stumbling on the best, "holy grail" version of that instrument. It's subtle the way it's "better". However, they all add up to make the playing experience pretty out of this world. I just wish they supported the customers at this level the way they support their Squier customers.
