56strat that is a beautiful 56', mine was a refin, and a hardtail, not nearly as nice as yours, sold a long time ago(luckily when the market for a refin was quite high).Mine was not half the strat my 54' MB is, how do you find your 54'MB compared to your vintage?

Thanks, it is the best Strat, at least for me, that I played to date. I owned quite a few vintage Strats, but this one was and is special.
This said, I do like the MB Strats I own. My '54 is a great sounding and feeling guitar, but my favorite is my 3-tone-sunburst maple neck Strat built to '59 spec built by Chris Fleming. The neck on it was copied from this '56 Strat. I don't care that much if old or new, a great Strat is a great Strat. My three MB Strats were all built by C. Fleming, he is my favorite builder for sure.
But the vintage ones have their own thing which is hard to explain.

It's quite relieving to hear that Fleming is so good :-)

Look what I found guys - the SRV Lenny copy also has the deep holes

Tomcaster, yes, I sanded the top, and did not repaint it, once it's screwed to the top no one will see it and maybe EJ is right about the tone :D 56strat, sounds like you have quite the collection! and I agree, over the years I've owned strats from every era, old is not always the best.I bought my 1st strat when I was 18 yrs old, I am 48 now, after chasing the perfect strat(at least for me)I have found it in this 54' Mb.I am actually getting ready to sell my CS 56' and have only one guitar, I just do not see the point in having more than one anymore, if I only want to play this one, I think I am cured of GAS finally!

Very nice!!

Well I have two Strats. One is the 54, one is my heavily modded SRV Sig - braz rosewood board with 7.25 radius, proper trem assembly, nitro lacquer, JM Rolph 58 pickups with a nice PIO cap etc. The only major difference to 'no1' is that the rosewood board is a slab and not a lam, but I can live with that because the overall spirit is there. The SRV Sig is detuned to Eb and has 11s on, the 54 has 10s. They obviously have a very different vibe and tone, I love both.

Hi guys, I got some interest in this specific great guitar lately and will probably purchase one to collect when there is a good chance.
These are priced these days around 3,900 - 4,500 or higher...

I wonder if any of you can help and give me some advice about which master builder to pick. I always wonder who is/are the best strat builders at customshop now and then.

Thanks guys.
Ray

I think they all great builders, it depends on your taste and what spec you like more. I know Fleming liked the dark salem brown sunburst, some builders had the sunburst more on the black side.
I don't think you could go wrong with any of the MBs, it just depends on the specific guitar.
I wonder what the CS is doing for the 60th Anniversary next year.
Good Luck on your search!

After a few days with the 54' block, my guitar friend(incredible player) came over to give his opinion, he felt it has more sustain, and is a bit warmer now, my ears could not hear much of a difference when I played it, but listening to him, it does sound great. Here is a final pic of it installed.Image

My properly colored block arrived just yesterday. You nailed the color on your lacquer job, my56Strat! I can only install it this weekend I think.

Did you sent yours back, and they corrected the color? if you could, post a pic, also let me know if you hear any change when you install it.
