56strat, I am still waiting for a reply. Perhaps that dark grey is correct for an early 54, let's see what they will say.

The shallow string holes alone are worth it because they change the string tension and therefore the sound. Let's see! The block is not that expensive so it's a worthy small experiment.

the block specs are correct for a 54', if they don't say the darker grey is correct, it's no big deal, I may just respray mine.

Hi Tomcaster, thanks for the update. I haven't received mine either. Anyway, the color is off I think. I have seen many vintage Strats and currently own two 1956 Strats, I only remember light grey. But with Fender in the early days you never know, they were all over the place. My other two Masterbuilt Strats have the shallow string holes, I guess these are the ones they started with the Eric Johnson model. These look like the original ones in my two 56s.

... I guess an EJ block would be fine for us as well, then! It's just a pity they have that EJ stamp :-)

It just read the old FDP thread with the discussion between Mike Eldred and Callaham. Very entertaining. I am sure Fender uses good stuff, a pity they have ignored the trem block string hole depth in 2004.

I'm in the process of moving it, it'll be back up very soon.

Anyone know where the site is?

Great, but for the money pigtail is charging, they should get the color right at least. I don't really expect much change in tone, I just ordered it because of cosmetics. Easy change and I might get surprised. But maybe I am just too old to hear the difference anymore.

I agree, the color should have been correct, but an easy fix IMO, as for 54' specs this was the only correct one out there.I am not expecting a tone change, just want my 54' as close to the originals as possible, just the guitar nerd in me I guess.

Just like me hehe! I do expect a little change though, especially together with the raw vintage springs. I am a little insecure though if the RVs are vintage correct, there are different opinions. But let's see!

The block looks really cool now, my56strat (btw are you a cousin of 56strat? ;-))

Tomcaster, I used Krylon -" Dull Aluminum" paint, just use a 3M pad to scuff /sand the dark grey paint first and it covers nicely, stick toothpicks in the sping holes, and cut a old set of strings down to about half inch and place string balls in holes to keep paint out.56strat that is a beautiful 56', mine was a refin, and a hardtail, not nearly as nice as yours, sold a long time ago(luckily when the market for a refin was quite high).Mine was not half the strat my 54' MB is, how do you find your 54'MB compared to your vintage?
