By the way, I read somewhere that some CS limited editions (like this one) had a model number with the actual volume made in ().

Mine says 15-1954-(803) 803 potentially being the number built at the time mine was made.
Possible?
If so we need to find a later built model and check ot the number see if it jives.

If not, then ignore this post! hahaha

It's a great idea, but I think 803 refers to it being a two colour sunburst. :)

Indeed Ron

Too easy eh?

I have #4059. I would send a photo to Sean to post in his excellent online gallery but I see it's already up there. I aquired the guitar in 2005. I can correct the weight listed for the guitar. It is 7.125 lbs (i.e. 7lbs, 2 oz) on the postal scale. It's a Greg Fessler.

I don't see a lot of folks talking about playing their MB '54's here so I'll mention it's a great gigging guitar. I string it with 11 flat's (D'addario Chromes). That mellows out the brightness nicely. I love the thickness of the neck 'cause I play thumb chords and it fits the shape of my hand nicely.

I did install the Callahan trem block and yes, it is complete snake oil. I perceive no significant increase in sustain but didn't expect that I would. I installed it strictly for vanity 'cause I didn't want the deep Bullet string sockets on a 1954 replica Strat. I also purchased a spare set of 'parted out' '54 MB pick-ups. I haven't put the spare set into the guitar and probably won't. I bought 'em 'cause mine has a fairly week middle pick-up (3.7 on the ohmeter vs 5.4 or so for the neck and bridge pickups). The lower output of the middle pickup gives it a sparkling clean tone and I decided I kinda like that. If you have youtubes of yourself playing the MB '54 do tell, I'd like to see 'em! I have one up at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXlA6FRwP-w - Marty

great video! bet that took a long time to master!

I just got mine a couple months ago and it needs a setup desperately so I don't play it much. It has a very unique tone from my other CS strats ('62 and '69) and when I add distortion I'd swear it had humbuckers! my frets and fretboard already show wear. I don't know if that is how it came or if that came from someone who loved her dearly but decided to part with her for whatever reason. I too found her on Seans website. I almost wish I could reach out to the owner who posted the pics and let them know she is in good hands! Mine is a Fessler as well. Its kinda weird, but I see more of the Fesslers for sale lately. I did find one Yuri but not until after I had already sealed the deal on this guitar. The grain pattern is beautiful and I have no regrets other than that I haven't been able to give her a proper setup yet.

The only thing I find odd about the guitar is how brown she is. I've not seen a strat so dark brown before - though I don't recall ever seeing a '54 other than on the internet. I've thought about letting her suntan like some of the people do on the les paul forum to see if she would fade a little... but I probably won't.

Thanks for the compliment! There use to be a MB '54 discussion on the FDP Fender Forum and from the large number of statistics that contributors gave there, the Fesslers were the lightest weight MB '54's on average. (We're all going to talk up our masterbuilders so I had to put that in). I'm told by a friend who works in the Fender factory that Fessler doesn't play guitar. That's not much of a recommendation until one considers that Leo didn't play guitar either. I think Leo made the Strat right the first time and that's why I love the MB '54's. As to you seeing more Fessler's for sale of late, I haven't seen that but I don't doubt it. It happens in waves. There was a point early on where I saw a lot of Dennis Galuszka's for sale and another time it was John English's. The real value in the guitar comes down to how well you play it. As for your brown coloring, you may be one of the lucky ones who has the more rare chocolate brown sides. -Marty

From those two certificates, the bottom one is correct for a 50th Anniversary '54.

Nice grain indeed! The light weight ash with the nice grain is one of the reasons I feel that Leo's first version of the Stratocaster was the best. -Marty

I agree with Nokie, Leo got it right with his first version! after getting my 54' MB it became really clear, having owned dozens of strats this one just feels perfect in every way to me.
