Hi there,

This is my first post on here.

I'm looking to get a Masterbuilt Strat made over the next year, and I wondered if you could help me.

I'll be choosing one of these masterbuilders....

Dale Wilson
Jason Smith
Greg Fessler

Does anyone have any idea of how long their current wait times are? Or is anyone in the process of having a guitar built that can share whether the turnaround times are generally kept to.

Many thanks,

R

Well...I just ordered a Jason Smith MB a few weeks ago and the wait time is 18-24 months at the moment if you want Jason to built it...

Thanks for the reply. I'd be curious to hear from others too.

With any of those builders, you're looking at no less than two years.

I got a reply from the UK rep and a few of the builders are 8 and 10 months. The rest are a year upwards.

If that's what they told you and you're ready to order I'd have them put that in writing and hold them to it. My experience
has been much different. I'm a lefty and most "team built" guitars take 8-10 months. Masterbuilt guitars are 12-14 months minimum.

Same here, and my last MB order was in 2007 (TK). My last TB order came in about the same time as yours in 2012. Even my first MB order in 1995 took 18 months.

We've watched this Masterbuilt business across the past 7 years of the Forums and it appears to becoming more and more asinine as time progresses. The kind of numbers in both wait time and dollars makes wonder whether the juice is really worth the squeeze. These guys are up to their collective ears doing more than just building guitars for the common man. They've got company projects which they have to turn their attentions to and, I'm confident that if some prominent artist put in an order for a couple of guitars, it would be prioritized at the expense of yours. What you want ought to be really worth the long wait if there's a particularly luthier in mind. Shop around and see if there's a prior owner piece that suits you if you're interest in that level of craft.

And on that sage wisdom, I just treated myself to a gorgeous used Custom Shop 55 Precision this past weekend to celebrate my 40th Birthday. Half the money, none of the hassle. Fender is too busy chasing "rockstar" endorsements, and corporate cash to be worried about the working musician. I'll be updating my old thread with pics.

Good luck to the OP. I hope this goes the way you want.

Good to hear that you've finally closed the circle and many happy returns to boot :!:

A second thought to the OP. Consider Paul Waller. Check on his wait time. He recently completed a carved top Telecaster which was drop dead gorgeous. He also builds Buddy Guy's guitars and that's good enough for me.

Thanks!

+1 on Paul Waller.

I've noticed some of Paul Waller's builds on sites and they look interesting. Same for Dale Wilson. He's made a few P basses I'd love to get my grubby little hands on.

Looking forward to the pictures! And nice to hear that you found something that you like :)

Dale would be my second choice at the moment...We follow each other on instagram and (besides being a nice guy) he posts a lot of pictures of his work, and there is a lot of beauties among them. One of them being the inspiration for the finish on my order.
