Sorry you're going through this, man. I definitely know how you feel. I've never been partial to Sadowsky or any of the other boutique builders because they don't do vintage Fender specs. I'm patrolling the used market now. What a shame, that sounds like a really cool bass. :(

I've never tried a Sadowsky, but since I've got a couple of Fenders with vintage specs I might consider trying that out instead...or buy a new kitchen instead for my new apartment, now that Fender obviously don't want my money

(but yeah, I've considered looking for a used bass instead, but I've already got 6 basses, so I really wanted it to be "the" bass this time..oh well... I hope you find something great or let me know if you come across something nice in Europe ;) )

Will do. Good luck!

Well, latest update - got in touch with JS who took some of his spare time to answer a couple of questions - so respect for him to do so even though he didn't have to. Took me one day to get in touch with him and get the answers for my questions and so far it's taken Thomann/Fender Europe 7 weeks...so now I decided to call it off...if the wait time had been around a year for a built I would have done it, but with all this trouble I just lost the entusiasm for the project and 2 years is a long wait for something that ended up this way.

Aw, man. I'm sorry. I know exactly how you feel. We should start a support group. "Bassists turned away by the Fender CS". I hope you find a way to get what you're looking for or something else you dig. :(

Thanks man - yeah, or a "Fender doesn't like european moeny"

Well, I'm looking quite hard at a P/J bass JS made in Satin Cadillac Green instead...maybe that's why it's been easier of letting go of what would have been my dream-bass...I could get almost everything I wanted regarding specs, but just too bad an experience here except for the MB himself..so now I'm just happy to finally have an answer and now I just have to find out what to buy instead :)

Adam, I would go through a dealer in the US. I don't think it's Fender Europe, it's Fender Germany. I heard a few times they are not very customer friendly.

It has nothing to do with being in Europe. I went through the same thing here in Upstate NY. It seems the current team in the Custom Shop, and Fender as a whole is more concerned with putting out "Time Machine" versions of instruments with modern specs like Sadowsky, and instruments that pay homage to other companies works instead of putting out actual Fenders. FMIC is just the new CBS. No respect to what made the company great or the players who have stuck by the brand. To busy trying to be everything to everyone instead of the best Fender they can be. If you're not Musicians Friend or some "star" then you're not worth their time.

US is not an option - the taxes would be way too much for it to be an option :)

But did a lot of "soul searching" over the weekend and got a reply from the dealer today with a price and so on..so I have decided to through with it after all...I think I would regret not doing it each time I would think about buying something new. A few minor adjustments to my specs after advice from JS and hopefully I'll have my bass sometime in 2016 (sigh)...Also...I only have to pay a deposit of 30% of the price to the dealer now and the rest, when the bass is done. That equals what I had to pay in taxes from gigs if I didn't buy more this year, so that made the decision about doing it anyway easier as well...

Glad you're going to be getting what you want. I hope the wait isn't too bad for you. I wish Fender had been willing to build what I wanted. I wonder how those Hurley sigs are selling anyhow?

I just hope that JS somehow sneaks my bass a bit up the list  But I think I'll manage - but I would be a lot more happy if it came 3 months from now ;) Was thinking long and hard about adding block inlays in black, but somehow it just feels wrong with blocks on P-basses...

Yeah, it would be interesting to find out how they're selling...I still thinks it pretty stupid that you can't get what you want because of that stupid Hurley signature

Just wanted to follow up on this old thread. My bass is done and was shipped from Fender friday, so hopefully I'll have it soon! It looks even better than I would have thought and Jason nailed the relic look I was looking for. Can't wait to try it and hear it in person, but Jason described it as real warm and "thuddy" and a total funk machine. Fender may not be easy to deal with, but got nothing but very good things to say about the experience with the master builder and Jason in particular. So that was a positive experience after all the trouble with just ordering.

I cancelled my CS order as after 6 weeks of putting it through I'd not heard whether they'd even received it or if it was going through. The shop had to chase them up and Fender said the file had become corrupted and I'd have to put the order in again from the beginning.

I think there are a few dedicated individuals working at the CS doing the best they can in a badly managed company, run without the customer in mind. As long as Fender make their money- they don't care about providing a good customer service!

If Fender didn't have its heritage and operated this way as a new company- they would go under- people would have no time for them. Terrible arrogance.

I think it's a bit hit and miss. My JS order took an awful time to get order confirmation on but when I placed an order for a Dale Wilson "jawbreaker" '61 Jazz in early february it only took a little over a week. So maybe things are better now or maybe it's really hit and miss with the orders - I dunno.
