Hey everybody - been lurking on the forum for a long time and finally decided to register because I have question you guys might know more about than I do.

4 weeks ago I sent an inquiry for a masterbuilt bass through a very big dealer in Germany (I'm from Denmark myself). I know it's summertime and all but neither I (or the dealer) hasn't heard if my specs/inquiry is possible. So my question is if anybody here has experience with how long the usual response time from the custom shop regarding masterbuilt orders?

I know the waiting time is usually quite long for MB's, but I'm starting to get a little impatient waiting for answer if my order even can go through.

I own a couple of MB's already but never ordered one with my own specs, so if the usual response time is longer, I don't have to check my email for news several times each day

Welcome to the Forums. Have a read of Echoes71's thread 'The wait is killing me...' It's a narrative of what was likely the longest build times in my memory of 7 years on these Forums. We've seen it as short as 6 mos. My personal experience with an order took 1 year, and then another 6 mos because the neck was wrong. The other was a Gilmour which was not affected by custom order factors. Factors affecting wait time can include: your build design and whether it has to be Teambuilt or Masterbuilt; Custom Shop schedule of a multitude of other projects; choice of Masterbuilder and his schedule of a multitude of other projects. The time frame in communications can also be protracted coming from Europe. Hope this has been of some help, and keep us updated as to your progress.

Doc

Thanks Doc, and thanks for the answer :)

I've seen the thread and I know I'm probably in for a looong wait and I know there's a lot of factors as you mentioned. I just wondered if the wait really is that long, just to know if they want do that order or not. I'll keep you update on the progress 8)

As long as the build itself took, the spec turnaround time was no longer than 2 days to get a price and an ok. Your shop needs to contact their sales rep at Fender and ask them what the hold up is on your quote.

Business negotiations with Fender, from Europe, seems to take an inordinate amount time. Ufff! :?

Yep! To borrow a line from a recent popular motion picture:

Thanks for the replies guys. My dealer already sent them a reminder a couple of weeks ago, but still no news yet regarding if the order is ok and ready to go. I know things usually takes more time when it's US/Europe, but I'll try to be patient a bit longer ;)

I'm on an 1,5 years wait of a MB Dennis Galuszka Jaguar. The communication with Fender is DRAMATIC! I also sent an inquiry to that very big dealer in Germany. They were very helpful, but it takes weeks to get a price and an answer if my dream guitar is possible. It takes so long because they've to communicate with Fender Germany and they've to communicate with Fender UK/Europe and they communicate with Fender USA.

Finaly I ordered my guitar in Holland (better price and service ) and now I'm waiting. They told me a Dennis Galuszka takes about 2 years waiting, but they can't give any details. I did not have even an order number. It's like putting your money in a big black hole. But I stay positive and I'm hoping Dennis Galuszka is calling me at the end of the year! We will see.

I do know that my dealer in Chicago does work with people in Europe as well, so maybe that would be the way to go if you are over there. I know he get's pricing within days, not weeks. Communication with Fender once the order is placed is always sparse until you talk with the MB, and non existent with a TB, but he can usually dig me up some info if asked.

coldstream, thanks mate! That would explain why it takes so long - been waiting 5 weeks now just to get an ok and a price...I try not to be impatient, but it's getting close to a point, where it's f*****' frustrating :) I don't mind that there a long wait for The instrument itself, but it shouldn't take 5 weeks just to find out if it's possible or not...The dealer is very helpful
but that doesn't really get me anywhere if fender is so slow..

And thanks Echoes, might give that a go if it goes om like this...

What I seen in common in several of these posts are things I have cited before most prominently

-in high demand Masterbuilders who are also tasked with a host of projects other than private single customer orders which, I fear, are relegated to least priority, bottom of the barrel status.

-corporate chain of command.

As Echoes suggests, if working directly through a US dealer like Wildwood Guitars, or Dave's Guitar can be done, I'd give it a shot. Though the track record on the time frame for his build was 'no cigar'.

Ah, this is a familiar tune. I've been there. Best of luck with your build.

Yeah, I already knew that was a risk before I tool contact to The dealer...I just thought that going through The largest musicdealer in Europe would have more impact, but that doesn't seem to be The case...ordering through an American dealer would probably be too expensive because The taxes are so High when importing into Europe vs. A dealer in Europe with lower taxes than Denmark. So I guess I just have to decide if The wait for an answer from Fender is worth The wait or I Want to spend The money on something else...Fender wouldn't Care anyways as long as they make enough money ;)

I hear ya. I'm back to scouring the used market. In a weird, not really related coincidence. I found a listing for what would be close to my ideal CS bass. 51 P, but with the belly and forearm contour. CAR, black guard with a matching CAR thumbrest. Drop dead gorgeous. However, it was exported to France so bringing her back in country would be ridiculously expensive. Over here the market seems to be flooded with the same old, same old. Burst, blonde or black. Though I did find a Surf Green 55 in Nashville that is calling my name. Still. Would have loved to have gotten what I wanted straight from the CS. :/
