We already know that Eric tinkered with graffiti Stratocasters in early 2001 before switching back to solid colours 4 years later. But he never came up with a Strat finished in the same colours as his psychodelic Fool SG from his Cream days in the 1960s.

I believe that the artist (Clapton) would need to request this. I'm sure you could request a Master Built one for yourself.

I don't think the CS can build a Fool Strat. They also need Todd Rundgren's (actual owner of the Fool SG) personal consentment before doing everything.

You might consider the fool finish as "unauthorized", ditto for Taos Turquoise.

Taos Turquoise is in fact a cataloged-and-documented Duco finish that was used on a few Strats in 1956. Mr. Crapton can claim no propriety for this color when applied to a Fender guitar.

+1

Eric disallowed the use of some custom colours on the regular production runs. One of these is the matched 2-colour burst. The CS did this Taos Turquoise EC Custom for evaluation purposes.

Therefore the finish can be considered as unauthorized since EC didn't approve it.

I expect a quick response from ZZDoc regarding the "unauthorized" colours.

Thanks for the cudos. To cut to the chase, the numerous discussions as to the authorized finishes need not be reitterated here. I take for granted that most of us know what they are/were in the Artist, Custom Shop and Masterbuilt series of guitars including the LTD's of 2010. The Custom Shop will build a 'Clapton-style' guitar in terms of electronics. You can fit it with what ever pickups you choose. You would have to verify with them that they will, indeed fit a vintage wire, 22-fret bleached neck with the Clapton neck carve on your guitar. You will not have Clapton's signature on the the neck. As to whether or not they would attempt to reproduce the "Fool" art, that's a question for the shop in that you're not going to identify the guitar as a Clapton. Expect it to be a Masterbuilt guitar.

The reason for Chromeface's post is not clear. However, if one would desire an EC 'Fool' Strat, a provider such as Ed Roman Guitars in Las Vegas mightdo it.

Correct.

There are any number of gifted luthiers and artisans who could create such an instrument. That it did not come directly from Corona should be of no import to someone who truly desires it. I've seen many commissioned replicas of the "Rocky", "Monterey", and "Crash" guitars that looked just as authentic as the original prototypes and their owners didn't shed tear one because the Custom Shop didn't build them.
