Hello folks,

I've taken the pickguard apart to check for a loose wire and I was surprised to see all the cavities painted with black shielding paint. The original owner claims it was never played since purchased. Any insights on this? I'm talking about the Monterey Pop Stratocaster run from 1997.

Thanks y'all for the help.

Hey nice score if you have one.
I cannot help with your question but of course if it is one of the 210 it will have the number on the back of the headstock e.g. x of 210 and on the body just below the neck plate but you probably know all this.
Did it come with a cert etc and the special case?
How about some pics to get us drooling. :D

definitely shouldn't be there. Every real Monty I've seen (several, I'll have you know) was to '64 spec inside and out. So that's an immediate red flag

let's see some pics - use www.tinypic.com to host the pictures if you aren't sure how to.

Not saying you're wrong at all, but do you happen to have a pic of a real Monty's cavities? I asked another friend who had one and here's what he sent:

He also confirmed that "yes, Hendrix Monty's came that way".

If that wasn't enough, I spoke to Pamelina, but she said she only did the artwork, the finishing (and the probable shielding, obviously) was done after she sent the bodies back to the factory.

But John Page did chime in with an email. Here's his response:

"Shielding the cavities was a pretty standard practice for us, so we probably did that, but I don't have an absolute recall on it.

As far as the finish, because Pamelina had to paint it, we couldn't use nitro, it was urethane, as I recall.

Cheers,
John"

So I was kind of sure this wasn't original stuff, but after seeing these pieces of evidence (Page's help is a strong point), it actually seems that they were in fact painted like these.

Hi,

I had a '97 1969 stratocaster that had the cavity painted like that.

Bopp_Gun, The black shielding paint is correct for your guitar.
