Hi,

I saw an Interview with John Cruz from January where he said that he was not accepting any orders currently, but would be again in some time,

Now a dealer where I wanted to order a John Cruz guitar or be put on a waiting list told me
that not only he isn't accepting orders now, he also wouldn't be in the foreseeable near future
so meaning no orders for regular custom shop customers anymore

is that true? I was even told that there was no point in waiting (1-2 years) until he is taking orders or backorders again, not even counting the 2-3 years building time once you're order is taken,

is it true that he isnt taking "regular" orders anymore and won't be in the future?

perhaps my question was a bit confusing
I just wanted to know when (if ever) I can expect to be able to order a John Cruz guitar,
not talking about the actual 3+ year building time but being able to order at all

I've been told by a custom shop dealer that I should not expect to be able to order in the next 3 years and instead choose another builder

I know both him and Krause are backed up badly, but that's all I know. Hopefully one of the Fender guys can answer you, but the place you were looking to order should have an idea of how long before he'll be free to at least get an order. If not, try another of the dealers to see if you can get some info.

Is about Stephen Stern and Paul Waller you're talking?

Paul did a Telecaster with some Gretsch flavours on it: the TeleGretscher. This design fused a Tele with a Country Gent, very cool guitar. :P

U2's Bono was undoubtedly a huge fan of those axes.

Paul Waller builds Buddy Guy's guitars. That's vintage enough in concept I should think.
You might also have a look at the Wildwood Guitar website, or Dave's Guitars, and see if they've got anything by JC that interests you. Additionally, in the current issue of Vintage Guitar Magazine, vintage guru George Gruhn advises potential collectors to focus on used Custom Shop guitars. I expect that little blurb to start tweaking the prices. Though second owner Fenders don't enjoy most of the perks of the warranty and Custom Care Program, you can still register your ownership with them. Personally, with all that's gone down with Fender lately, I'd just as soon get off their Masterbuilder hero worship train. What corporate does for the good of their fiscal policies doesn't necessarily trickle down to the proletariat's benefit. So much for consumer loyalty to the brand. Eldred's been gone for months and we haven't been formally introduced to his replacment yet. In retrospect, this as well as Eldred's Forum used to be raging with discussion. Not so any longer. That speaks tomes.

I will be curious what the winter Namm Show will hold for Fender and if Mike's replacement will be there. I did see Mike at this past winter show and I had no clue that he wouldn't be there again. The times are changing and hopefully things will move forward in a positive direction. Nothing stays the same and it is best to take a negative and turn it around to something positive and I am sure Fender is going to have some pretty cool custom shop guitars coming out in 2015. :D

Meanwhile my local Fender dealer has eleven new unsold John Cruz guitars in stock that nobody appears to want at £4990 and one secondhand.

I don't know about price, but I can tell you that most Fender Masterbuilders seems to be leaning toward non-vintage correct specs. The entire Shop as a business plan seems to be headed that way. I don't know about anyone else, but that automatically makes me pass on a bass right out the gate. If it's got a 10.5 radius it isn't a 1960 Stratocaster recreation. It's just another boutique knock off. You can spend less and get that from Sadowsky if that's your bag. If I'm putting down good money on a Custom Shop Fender. I want an actual Fender. The market is flooded with Master and Team Built "51, 55, and 58" Precisions with modern and compound radius necks and medium jumbo frets. If I wanted that I wouldn't be ordering a 50's P bass recreation. Maybe they are missing what their market is really after?

I agree, if I wanted a strat with modern specs I'd just buy an american standard or deluxe
I wonder who buys these dealer select 10" neck guitars

I have John Cruz on facebook, about a month ago a friend of his tagged him as the "head honcho" at the custom shop. It could be temporary of course.
