I just love James Burton's guitar playing and the way he makes a Telecaster sound like a tone monster. I wish the custom shop would do a copy of the Telecaster James played on the Ozzie and Harriet show. Not the current model that is out with all the gold hardware and the flames all over it, nor the model made in Mexico. A straight ahead 50's Telecaster with the spec's James had on that Telecaster that he played on TV. :D

The CS needs James' personal authorisation before reproducing the guitar you're talking about.

Is there anything particularly special about this Telecaster? It was a stock instrument. I did see a photo of him playing a sunburst Tele with maple neck and black scratch plate. You could make one of these yourself.

The photo you're talking about dates from 1959.

That is not the Tele in that photo. I just read in a magazine that Fender is doing another James Burton model and it will be announced at James Guitar Festival in August. :D

The first Rickenbacker I ever saw was in his hands, playing on one of that show's performances.[Guitar Player, August 2014, pg 57]. It was a Capri of that vintage. He's also been seen in the same setting with a Jazzmaster of that date. The magazine article referenced is probably the same one I've just cited.

+1

All it takes is a screwdriver.

If all it takes is a screw driver, than why are all these artist endorsed guitars being built? Because Fender can and there is a market for it. I will buy a James Burton Telecaster, if Fender comes out with the one James used during the Ricky Nelson period. Not the models that are out now with Burton's signature on them. Those guitars have too much bling on them. Just a simple Telecaster with James Burton's mojo on it! James Burton rocks and he is one nice person. :D

The followup on the Burton guitar I referenced somewhere above is that is was a one-off strictly for him with no pans for a production model. :(

Apparently James never brought that sunburst Tele onstage.

With that Roy Buchanan-inspired beard it's pretty difficult to recognize him. :|
