Hi all,

I have owned a Custom Shop American Classic Strat since I purchased it new, from a store in Adelaide, Australia, in 1997. It is my pride and joy (for now..no kids yet) and I was researching a bit more about it and have a few things I'd like to ask. Hope someone can help with a little more info:

1. Serial Number is CN507XXX (not sure if I should post the actual serial number) which I have been told that it is from Korea, however, I've deduced that it is a CS strat, made in Corona (the Certificate, signed by John Page, is dated Feb'97. However, the serial number suggests it was made in '95... Could this be the case and the certificate only says '97 (ie: when guitar was sent out/certificate produced, etc..)?
2. The original purchase receipt has long been lost. I bought it new and was hoping to get the guitar registered, however, I understand you need a copy of the original receipt. Has anyone managed to get theirs registered without the purchase? I will contact the store and see if they have records of my purchase, which I doubt, since it was over 20 years ago. I still the original certificate, strap, case.. everything that came with the guitar.
3. Is there anyway I can find any specific info about my guitar. For eg, I remember it came with Tex Mex pickups (I think!) but I cannot be sure. All original (incl. Tortoishell pickguard).

Anyway, here are the 2 photos I have (Guitar is back home in Australia)

Thanks in advance for any help.

Custom Classic Stratocasters® made prior to 2003 sported Texas Special™ single coils.

From that date until their discontinuation in 2009 Custom Classics were featured with Modern Classic™ pickups (including a hot bridge pickup with a steel inductance baseplate).

Common misconceptions. The US CS did use C prefix serial numbers, and the following letters/numbers do not necessarily correlate to year made. No Korean Strats have the SN on the neck plate. The pics look legit, however, showing the rest of the guitar could help with confirmation.

Thanks guys. I am 100% it is legit (bought it from one of the largest/oldest guitar stores in Adelaide. Certificate is below. I am living overseas and it is home with my folks, but I could maybe get them to take some more photos (I should anyway, for insurance reasons).

Thanks for clarification regarding the pickups.

Were CS American Classics of this period common? The figured maple neck is beautiful but I assume most would buy CS replicas and others would buy just standard (ie: Non CS) American Classics, but maybe I am wrong.

Awesome, jimmy james. Thanks so much for the info, exactly what I was looking for. Shame it was quite a common guitar, but I guess that really doesn't matter in the long run. I guess nineties is better than Noughties! ;)

Any clues about the serial number date (CN5...) suggests made in '95 vs the Cert (say's Feb'97)?

Thanks again. Greatly appreciated.

If the number on the neckplate matches the cert I would not be at all concerned since I have seen discrepancies like this.
A quick email to consumerrelations@fender.com may help but it would possibly only give you the info already provided. :D
