Starting with the Strat in 1996 with the Tele following a couple of years later, the CS takes now the famous Clapton «Gold Leaf» finish into the bass territory with this magnificent Greg Fessler Masterbuilt '59 P-Bass NOS.

Add a matching Jazz Bass, a Strat & Tele pair and you have a nice family portrait :P

The J is out there. I've seen it. Not sure which shop has it. I think I would have went all the way and put the gold anodized guard on it aswell. At that point, why hold back?

I'll look around for it. I could have sworn I saw it on fb. I think one of the higher end bass shops posted it awhile back.

Yup. BCC has it. Or had it. I don't know.

I bet Greg had built both basses, nice effort! :P

However I'm afraid about Eric's reaction as the Gold Leaf finish is exclusive to the Custom Artist EC series and cannot be used on other instruments without his personal authorization.

I'd be surprised (amazed even - like this ->   ) if this was true. Perhaps once, but it's been 10 years since he owned that original guitar and even longer since he played it. It's not really part of the standard EC Strat colour range either.

exclusive rights to a color. I dont think so. Prince had a all Gold leaf strat made for him in 2010 and auctioned it off.

John Mayer has also a goldleafed Strat.

Since both artists own a gold leaf Strat it's likely possible the CS will make a nice pair built to their own personal specifications.

I'm a P guy through and through, but I honestly think the Jazz bass wears this finish better. Though I think I would have went with either the gold anodized or single ply black guard instead of the white, though. Cool, but way too "bling" for my tastes.

The Gold Leaf Stratocaster in its original form came with a gold anodized guard. It also sported gold-plated dome metal knobs, switch tip and pickup covers. Later, Eric replaced the gold parts with stock white plastic to match his other personal stage guitars.

FYI Wikipedia did mention of a certain John Luis Campo who apparently played a key role in the development process. Any thoughts?

I definitely like the gold anodized better.
