Nice guitar! I saw a Taos Turquoise Clapton Strat from the late 1980s belonging to Eric himself a couple of years ago.

The figured maple neck on this beauty is the icing to the cake, with the compound radius as a bonus! :D

Enjoy your baby! :P

Beautiful guitar! 8)

But, the neck is birdseye, not flame. I prefer the birdseye over the flame myself.

Just put this down to excitement, and at my age!

I'm curious - what's the benefit of having a factory blocked vibrato, as opposed to no vibrato at all?

If you have a look at he tremolo and its contact area with the guitar, there isn't a great deal. So Eric and I think that having it slammed to the body and then a block of wood connecting the sustain block to the body helps transfer the tone. This may well be complete poppycock but Eric and I like the idea. It does give a different feel to string bending as well.

This is the one on my project guitar>

The only poppycock is that EC had a block in his own guitar, he did not. In previous discussions here about this subject, it is unclear why Fender decided to use a block of wood when EC never used such a block, he simply tightened the trem claw screws to hold the bridge fast to the body. For my decked bridges, I like the same method that EC used (no wood block), and as EC himself stated, the springs and steel bridge block add something to the tone that you just can't get with a non-trem bridge. There is a bit of reverb added to the sound with the springs stretched tightly, and the bridge being decked will no doubt add some sustain and resonance. Adding a block of wood just seems that it would dampen or at least change the reverb/resonant affect gained from decking the bridge.

Personally, I would guess that a misunderstanding, or misuse of the term "blocked bridge" might be what led to the addition of a block of wood in a "blocked" bridge.

Maybe it was put there for transport but never taken out :?

For those who have had a sense of humour (humor) bypass, this is an attempt at a joke.

Maybe. Fender put these blocks in all of the EC signature models, and on many other EC models, including CS. They don't use them on any other models, except as requested by the purchaser, so it seems that this is something exclusive to many EC models. Why? It's anyone's guess. :? There are several threads about this nefarious block of wood. Try a search to check out the discussions.

But still, you have a stunning guitar! :D

Phew! I thought it was going to turn into another argument thread.

Love the word 'nefarious'.

Are the Abbey handwound 69s noiseless? Or there's a dummy coil beneath the pickguard to reduce the buzz? (sorry for the question but I've some worries for redundant noise from those puppies with a cranked MDX).

Not sure is the TBX is present or not in the guitar.

My answer to that would be "resale value". A Strat with normal trem would be an easier sell at likely a higher price than a hardtail. I might be wrong, but that is my opinion.

I think you misunderstood the question. What's the advantage of getting a vibrato assembly at all if it's factory blocked? Is there any advantage to having an unused vibrato assembly over going for a bridge without the trem bar hole and a back without a cavity?

Or won't CS make a solid back hard-tail strat for those who don't want trem but maximum sustain?

That makes sense, but wouldn't it buy at a higher value too?
