Yes and no. Slightly different.

Here's the 54 Master Built from 2004:

Your 2004 Masterbuilt has the wrong switch tip. It is the regular reissue switch tip you can find on the '56 etc Strats. Someone changed it.

+1

This would be the correct switch tip from 1954 through circa late 1955......

Butterscotch does yours spend a lot of time in it's case? your pickgaurd looks very white and the knobs look crisp and new. My pickgaurd is yellowed and the knobs are wearing, already lost some of the numbering(also the fretboard is getting wear marks).

I think yours is aging quite realistically.

Thanks Arjay, there is a part of me that would have liked to have had a new one , put away in pristine condition, but the other part of me loves the way this is aging as it's played. I would be curious to see how some of these have aged after 10 years, but I'm sure many were put away and saved as new.

That pic of mine was taken soon after I got the guitar. However it does spend more time in the case than it deserves to, because I try to rotate the guitars that are out on stands, and a fondness for Telecasters means they get played most! :)

I suppose the case can be made for having an untouched/unmolested/unplayed/un-etc etc guitar. The owners of such virgins *may* realize a slight premium when they ultimately decide to sell them. Personally, I like a guitar with a bit of "character" to it -- not necessarily a full-tilt boogie relic, just one with a light tarnish patina to the hardware, a bit of yellowing to the plastic parts, and some mild lacquer checking to the finish. You know......"mojo".

Curiously, the single-ply white pickguard on my 1998 MIM 50's Classic Series Strat hasn't discolored a bit since I bought it in early 1999......

It's still as white as arctic snow and I've played at least a thousand gigs with the guitar.

Weird!

Arjay, I'm thinking it must be made of different material than these, I know the 54's have a thicker pickgaurd.

The pickguard is .070" PVC, while the rest of the plastic, pickup covers, knobs, switch and trem tips is high-styrene ABS.

I think you guys are right. That pickguard measures .050" and the composition seems much more pliable that the material used on the Corona-made Custom Shop guitars.
