OK, I should have seen this coming, but.... After reading the review of the "new" 60th Anniversary CS Masterbuilt Strat, I am just trying to get clear on the differences between this one and my 50th Anniversary Masterbuilt '54 reissue? Pretty hefty price tag, I see(again!), but was it as painstakingly researched like the 50th? With all the appropriate parts of the same materials, etc.....? Does anyone have both(yet)?

I own one of the 50th CS Anniversary '54s and played a 60th anniversary CS Relic '54. The 60th was a very nice guitar, sounded great and I really liked the neck shpae. But I didn't like the heavy relicing and the 9.5" radius fingerboard. They used the same plastic and Pat.Pend. saddles as on the 50th.
I prefer my 50th Anniv. '54. But again, the 60th '54 is a nice sounding and feeling guitar.

The 60th is not master built, it comes with one center pocket tweed case, and has different size frets, along with the other features already mentioned.

Yes.

As Relic G Man mentioned, the 60th is a Team Built, not a Master Built. Mine is a very light guitar, one piece body and as opposed to 56Strat, I love the feel of the broken-in neck; also worth mentioning the neck radius is modern, as well as the wiring (bridge pickup linked to 2nd tone knob, as most of the CS Strats out there).

Note the strap button on the top is not positioned exactly at the same place on both guitars, the 50th MB is placed like early 54's, the 60th is placed like regular Strats.

In terms of sound, it seems to me the pickups have a slightly higher output than the 50th MB, but that's only a personal feeling.

Nice pic yvil, congrats. Just curious, are the pickguards the same thickness? and also are the pole piece diameters the same?

Hi Relic G,

I tried to measure the thickness of the pick guard of both, kind of difficult, I would say, if I'm not mistaken, not being familiar with the inches measurements, that both pickguards are 1/16'' thick.

Regarding the pole piece diameters, looks identical too, around 7/32''.

Provided those measures make sense.

Thanks for posting the pictures and details, Yvil. I salivate every time I see a nicely worn Strat. I nabbed a 50's Road Worn Strat earlier this year (for cheap). It fells like a nice old brown shoe. I like to play it more than my '54 MB or any of my other non-worn Strats. I do prefer a 7.5" radius neck but I see myself be going for the 60th anniversary relic if and when they start showing up on the used market. -Marty

The 60th model wasn't marketing as being an exact replica, in the way the 50ths were.
That said, I need to figure out a way to get my hands on 60th...

They are doing a few NOS 60th 54's from the Custom Shop also. Saw one in Japan and one in the US for sale so far. MAP was $4k.

Do either of these guitars have the period-correct "football" switch tip?

Yes and no. Slightly different.

Here's the 54 Master Built from 2004:

and the 54 60th Anniversary:

I also saw on the Music Zoo site they are doing them in "Vintage White".

Yvil, my 50th 54' has the correct football tip like the bottom pic, are you sure yours wasn't changed somewhere down the line? the one you show is a modern switch tip. I just looked at The Music Zoo's site, really can't see how they call that a 54? white finish, quartersawn neck,9.5 radius, 6105 frets, what about it is from 54?
