Okay, I've seen the CS Hurley Sig 61 P. (Great instrument) However, what I'd like to know is if anyone's heard if Fender eventually plans to churn out the mute system on the bass as a part? Some sort of mute systems have been available for awhile aftermarket, but the Fender model looks really, really nice. I'd think this as a part in the accessories section of the website would be a great seller.

If Sean kindly agrees, your dream would become a reality.

eBay is the best place to find that Hurley custom mute IMO.

I doubt it. You don't see any RSD Bass Bridges on Ebay. Why would someone pay thousands of dollars for a custom shop bass and then part it out? In my experience, even people who end up doing part swaps on Custom Shop basses hold onto the original parts. Even down to the pick ups most of the time.

This was an old thread before I was informed that they wouldn't do the mute with custom build. If you check the dates, and actually read what is posted that is fairly plain to see. Chromeface just replied to both for some reason instead of keeping it in one. Sorry that seems a bit much for you.

Interesting. So it seems it can be had. Apparently just not through the Custom Shop. They mentioned the mute is originally for a Jag. Hmmmm... I'll see what I can track down. Good lookin' out! :D

Update. Found the Jaguar Mute with ease. Not sure if the Hurley is actually a larger version of the Jag mute, or if it's actually the same part. I'm not clear on whether the mute on a Jaguar would actually work on the Precision. However, I am willing to spend the 13 dollars to find out! Who knows? Perhaps I'll have one on my 57 Reissue AND my Custom Shop Single Coil Precision. However, I will still be buying that used on principle now. Thanks a ton Orvilleowner!

The only difference I can see between the Jaguar Mute and the mute that's installed on that Signature bass is two holes. The holes are on the Jaguar Mute -- the bridge mounting screws go through them.

The "custom" unit doesn't have the holes because there are no bridge mounting screws to go through them.

Oh, I guess the actual foam could be different.

Good luck with it. Let us know how it goes. The fellow at that link I gave above seemed to make it work.

Both parts look pretty much identical to me.

So what if you try to place your order again specifying a jaguar mute instead? You'll probably have to go master built though...

That's an interesting question. I'd think they know what I was asking for, but who knows? Maybe it's something as silly as ordering the "mute system off the hurley" instead of the Jag part. To be honest I think it being a masterbuilt feature would be more than fair. It requires quite a bit of modding to the standard body. Once you cross that threshold plenty of other options become available that might make it worth while. I had always wondered about the "Stacked" coil, and the loss of tone you get when you use a hum cancelling pick up. I had often wonder if you could instead of picking one the other in regards to the true single or stacked coil. I remember in the old days they used to hide a dummy coil in the route. I had wondered if you could do that and make it selectable. Possibly hiding the switch in the S-1 fashion. Thus making the Single Coil P bass a true single coil when you want it, but when you need it you can just engage the dummy coil with the S-1 and boom. Hum cancelled. From the outside it would still look vintage. It would still have the option of the vintage sound, but also the more modern hum cancelling option, too. Yeah, once you get to that Masterbuilt level you can get silly. I'd definitely be okay with that. I thought it was odd when they came back with a flat out no after initially saying that it was doable. (the rep originally said they should b able to do it. He later said they would not)
