err...stop press....the Sonic Blue has been returned to dealer...I wasn't bonding with the looks. In person, the guitar looks quite different from the dealer pics and has a greenish hue that I find quite unpleasant. Also, no bridge pup tone control was niggling me.

So....I have exchanged for this beaty in Daphne Blue:

http://worldguitars.co.uk/60-stratocaster-relic-daphne-blue-with-abbys/

I'm much happier with the looks, plus it has hand wound Abbys, I've checked and they are signed, plus a tone control wired to control bridge pup as well. Sounds wise, it's a little warmer in the mid range, which is a good thing for me.

Frets appear to be medium jumbo, I would have preferred 6105s but having said that these feel quite a bit meatier than the regular American Standard med jumbos, so that's fine.

This one's a keeper! I bet dealers hate the way some of us guitarists are so fussy.

I'll post some personal pics when I get chance

Awesome, is that a brazilian rosewood fretboard?

Well I'm not sure, I have no specs apart from what's on the dealer website. The fretboard is definitely more red than a typical rosewood board and it does sound different played acoustically. the tone is less 'zingy' and more rounded with a more pronounced mid-range and a noticeable reduced low end and high end. This carries across when plugged in as well. How would I find out if it's Brazilian?

The Abby pups are quite low output, lower that the regular custom shop pups in the Sonic Blue I returned, however, the bridge hand wound Texas Special sounds fierce with a cranked overdriven amp with the guitar tone rolled back a bit. The neck pup is a little hollower sounding in comparison, but that's the expected difference with a '69 so it doesn't get mushy at all.

The middle pup Fat 50 is a nice mix of the two and does a great ’De Do Do Do De Da Da Da' by The Police, which I'm convinced was recorded with Andy Summers red Strat.

Nice. To be fair isn't sonic blue one of those finishes that changes with age? I thought one of the blues turns green and one of the greens sometimes looks blue? Seafoam maybe? Since it's Nitro it would make sense that as the finish yellows a blue one might get a green hue. So I think the CS did it right for the relic, but I can certainly understand wanting your blue guitar to be blue.
