Just pulled the trigger on my first CS guitar : 60s Strat Relic in Sonic Blue:

http://www.peachguitars.com/guitars/electric-guitars/fender-custom-shop-60-strat-relic-sonic-blue.htm

Light relic on this one with a Texas Special/Fat 50/CS69 pup combo. Anyone got an opinion on these pups together?

Delivery due tomorrow morning, can't wait!

Scroll down, this guitar has gone back!

Congrats, one of the best colors and looks like a very nice guitar.
Yours comes with a mint green p/guard?

OK guitar arrived a few hours ago. It's a November 2011 so has been hanging around the dealer a while, but is in 'as new' condition, well, as new as a relic ever looks. I'm going to be honest with you here, I have never seen a CS Relic in person before, only in pics on web.

When I opened the case I was shocked! I have owned many guitars and habitually my first job on opening the box/case is to inspect for damage....well all my instincts kicked in and my first uncontrollable reaction was 'this isn't new, it's really old and looks a right mess'

I was convinced that I was looking at and holding a really old worn guitar, and questioned whether I should have parted with £2200 for an old beater! The relic job absolutely did the trick and the guitar is in 'worse' condition that I expected, but in a good way.

Then I looked closer and got over the initial reaction I noticed that the frets and fretboard are in pristine condition, it really is a lovely piece of rosewood, with a lovely grain and colouring and is a joy to play.

As it's a November 2011 guitar (probably been with the dealer since early 2012), I did Brasso the frets to polish them back to glossy shiny metallic loveliness, and there is no wear at all so it's been looked after by the dealer.

Plugged in, it is staggering. The tone is like no other Strat I've owned, thick and crunchy but with bell like clarity, when overdriven. Sharp and precise yet mellow when needed when played clean. I've had numerous American Series, American Standards, Mexican classics and this beats them all.

One thing, I didn't even notice for at least a couple of hours when playing, the Bridge pup has no tone control, it's a 5 way switch but traditional rather than modern tone wiring, is this correct and the way the custom shop 60s relics are wired?

I'll post up some pics soon.

Gazza

No tone control for the bridge pup is correct for a guitar of that "period!"

Yeah I know it's period correct, I just wan't sure if the 60s relic would have been modern wired or not.

What I have found on all previous Strats I've owned, especially American Series/American Standards is that the bridge gets very ice picky and needs the tone control to reel in the pain when overdriven, this Custom Shop Relic doesn't need it, with the amp set right it sounds thick and full with the tone full on - no problem.

I think this is the best sounding guitar I've owned, and that includes a Gibson RI59.
