So many moons ago, someone suggeted that the Fender Custom build an Ike Turner Stratocaster. I'm not sure how this would be any different from any other sonic blue Strat of that period, but hell, everybody's got their passion. Ah!!! Andy Summers Telecaster (glazed eyed and drooling).

Back on topic. So to my surprise, I found one listed in the 2014 Vintage Guitar buyer's guild. According to the guide, the Fender Custom Shop build 100 of these guitars in 2005. They are going to between $1,800 to $2,300 for a used one.

For all of those Ike Turner fans, I hope this helps.

While there wasn't anything really special about the guitar, its retail price (around $3400) was in the same ballpark as specially ordering a CS'59 slabboard.

And it did come with a CD of Ike's pre-Tina music and a commemorative DVD about the building of the guitar.

Most people forget (or never learned about) how important and significant Ike was in the 1950's, long before he discovered Tina and turned her into more than a waitress. He was one of the first adopters of the Strat, and in the early days when people associated the Strat with Eldon Shamblin, Bob Wills, and Western Swing, he turned it into a rock and roll, R&B, blues icon.

While Ike played piano, not guitar, on the first rock & roll song ever recorded, his place in music history shouldn't be underestimated. Nor should his significance be overshadowed by how crazy he got when he started doing drugs in the '60s and '70s. He was an equal opportunity abuser during that period -- he terrorized the men in his bands as much or more than he terrorized Tina.

.......which explains why he guests on piano for two tracks of The Mike Eldred Trio's CD "61/49", a 'must own' for Forum members, IMHO. 8)

Pianist, guitarist, producer, arranger, singer -- Ike was a man of many talents. Perhaps his greatest achievements came as a producer.

Few people diss John Lennon for being a wife beater, but he even sang about how badly he mistreated his first wife Cynthia (listen to his bridge in "Getting Better"). He was quite candid that he treated all women that way before he met Yoko. ("You Better Run For Your Life Little Girl", the Rolling Stone interviews.)

And Tina has said that the movie exaggerated the way Ike treated her, and glossed over the fact that he treated the guys in his band at least as bad as he treated her.

I'm not excusing his bad behavior, just saying that's not the only thing he should be remembered for.

I never underestimated Ike's contribution to the glory of the Strat®
His use of the whammy bar made it discovered by thousands of Strat® players
What we were talking about is the relation between his Tribute guitar and his own, which is far from being close I may say, whatever goodies are being delivered with it.
