For those of you who have experience ordering a masterbuilt guitar, can anyone tell me how long they waited, once the masterbuilder had been in contact to confirm the spec?

I'm interested in how long it takes after the builder gets in contact, not the overall wait, which varies from builder to builder.

I would say 'asked and answered'. IMHO you'd, as well, have had to have asked when, by virtue of having contacted you, the builder is going to start your project, and what else is up and on-going on the bench at the time. From the looks of the Custom Shop product shown at this year's NAMM, and Eldred's commentary, they haven't exactly been dedicating all their time to client orders.

I fully understand that there can be other variables at play.

All I was hoping for, was a couple of anecdotes from guys who had ordered an received Masterbuilt guitars.

For example: "I ordered a Jason Smith Strat. He called / emailed me to confirm the spec. It arrived at my dealer 10 weeks later."

'Echoes' has been waiting 2.5 years.

Sure I'll play. I ordered a TK in June 2011, spoke to him in June 2013 the first time, currently still waiting, though it should be done within the next couple of weeks.

It should be noted that he had to build the Brownie run in the middle of all of that...

I think the time you talk to them and the time it gets done, also varies. You just have to try and be patient and hope for the best.

Talked to Greg Fessler in late October 2012, guitar was at Willcutt's early April 2013 (then it went back to the CS because we decided on a color change but that's another story).

I think it can vary quite a bit depending on the builder and how busy he is.

Here's a little anecdote regarding a teambuilt order I placed about 8 years ago. It took 12 months to deliver and arrived with the wrong neck carve. It was sent back for replacement and another 6 months went by before it returned. From the content of the videos out of this year's NAMM one would imagine that the demands the Shop makes on the luthiers for the company's projects are going to affect the time frame for private orders. I am surprised that they haven't put a 'hold' on new orders for certain builders until their backlogs have been met, and thereafter let the customers understand that they will only accept a certain number per year so as to reduce the wait time. That would certainly make sense. At least one would have a better sense of the time frame within which one's build could be expected to start.

I did see a video from NAMM 2014, where John Cruz said his order book is reluctantly closed until his backlog is significantly reduced. He indicated that it was not his decision.

From this, I'm going to presume that Todd Krause's order book is shut, too.

That's correct, it started several months ago actually, and happened before too. When a builder's backlog gets really crazy they stop taking orders. It usually only happens with John and Todd.

Yeah this has already started, expect to hear about a couple of builders no longer taking orders.

Business is good. I suspect the load is likely coming from dealers like Wildwood, and Dave's, as opposed to private customers.
