Just out of curiosity.....
I decided to give my 99 Tele 63 relic a clean down recently and found a stamp with "john Cruz" on the underside of the scratch plate. I told a fender obsessed friend of my findings and he got very excited about it and told me its a "special" guitar because of who built it.
Can anyone give me the run down as to where John Cruz fits in in the larger custom shop picture?
I couldn't care less about who built it as its such a great guitar but like I say out of curiosity?
Thanks

The tricky thing about sarcasm is it's hard to figure where it begins or ends sometimes. :O) But no doubt the link is sarcastic......I enjoyed it though and will probably use it myself in other ways.

I guess the long, somewhat more polite answer to your question would be something like this:

There's quite alot of information online about John, including videos of him telling his own story. If there's something in particular you're looking for, let us know.
All the best,
rob

The simple question that I should have asked at the start is does a John Cruz built guitar hold any significance / value over non John Cruz custom shop guitars?

Fair question, which you can also kind of get an idea from over the web, but John is a very popular builder, for good reason, and demand is very high for his work.
I'm not one who can really speak to the "value" issue very well, but again, i can say that they are prized guitars and his work is highly respected.

Since i'm in the service end of things, I'm not spending a great deal of time looking at prices and such.....but online is another area where you can get a pretty good feel for how that plays out.

All the best,
rob

Thanks for the info, it's been a very long time since I last owned a Fender so I'm out of touch. The www is great for digging up info but quite often I find it can be a bit way word, hence my post on the fender forum with a fender man question.
Don't worry I don't suffer from a seance of humour bypass either.

He enjoys a highly respected place in the Masterbuilder stable. For one, he built the entire run of the Custom Shop John Mayer Black 1 project. For two, and ya'll may correct me if I'm wrong, the entire run of the Buddy Holly project. However, if I were doing a Clapton, I'd defer to Todd Krause, and be willing to wait three years, but I have no doubt that John could meet the test. He's also a high capable guitar player. I'd take good care of that guitar of his you own.

Isn't it possible Cruz on OP's guitar just did/work on one part/facet of guitar and didn't build entire guitar and set up as he would today on a MB?

I don't know that such was a policy at that date and time.
