Just got wind of the new closet classic 1964 Stratocasters. Found several for sale already but I have a question. The promo page from Fender shows the guitar with a transition logo while all the models I've found for sale have a spaghetti logo.

What's that about? I want one, but would prefer the transition logo as that's what i had on my original '64 that I sold so many years ago.

It has the same logo here:

I compared with these two:

I'm not sure what you are pointing out - your first link is to a 1964 closet classic Strat for sale - it has the pre-CBS "spaghetti" logo waterslide on the headstock.

Your next 2 links are from the Fender website page for the 1964 closet classic Strat, but the photos in those links show a transitional logo on the headstock.

That was my question to Fender - Why does the webpage promo feature a guitar with the later transitional logo, while all the models I can find for sale are sporting the older style "spaghetti" logo.

Fender may or may not get back to you on this but while you are waiting you probably know both logos are valid for that year.
Do you have a photo or link that clearly identifies the 64 strat as from the current 2014 lineup? Presumably it should have an L serial rather than R.
Shame you don't still have an original 64.
Why did you sell it? :D

The pictures of the guitar at Benr08's link show the L serial number and the spaghetti logo.

Yes, a 1964 reissue could have either logo, but it would be odd if Fender shows the transition logo in its marketing, but one can only find the spaghetti logo in the shops.

Yeah I know that they used both logos in '64, but if I'm shelling out close to 4k for a guitar, I would like every detail intact and my preference on this would be the transition logo. Here is the link to their promo page:

I sold it back around 1982 for $200 - college days and needed cash - the price is absurd now, but I actually only paid $175 for it! Of course these days I hate that I sold it as it was truly a monster of a Strat, but I'm also sad that I don't even have any pictures of it. From the late 70s through the mid 80s, I moved through guitars like underwear, and never really gave much thought to their eventual worth.

Yes thanks for pointing this out. I had seen it but I have not seen any others at this stage and the op said he had seen a couple.
It did strike me as strange that the main photo is just the strat and the others are the guitar hanging on the wall with a background.
Wondered if it was a generic i would like to see further examples as a matter of interest. :D

The transition decals make their debuts during the second half of 1964 if my memory serves.

OP here -

So here is a shot of the headstock for the 1964 closet classic Strat that is being sold by Sweetwater:

Here's the link to the full page:

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Strat64Anni/

And here is the link to Fender's webpage showing the guitar with the different logo:

http://www.fender.com/custom-shop/serie ... -sunburst/

I've seen quite a few for sale now from dealers around the world and they all have the "spaghetti" logo. I assume Fender made a last minute change on the final logo but already had their promo webpage setup with the transition logo photo.

Hey thanks for that.
Pretty conclusive evidence.
Not a bad discount there? :D

Here is the video of Mike Eldred introducing the '64 Strat.... It has the Transition logo...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSaZISzK5QA

The one I have on its way to me has the Spaghetti logo...

So I guess they come in both flavors?

Though the CC '64 Strat is featured with the gold transitional decal, some are shipped with the vintage spaghetti logo.

As I said in a previous post the transitional decal appeared during the second half of 1964.

One possible explanation is that Fender decided to offer this recreation of the original '64 Strat in two different flavours.

Hi,

I bought the '64 anniversary Strat with the L-serial.

Mine has the spaghetti logo and not the transition logo. I don't know why. Mine is one of the first that has been sold and the first one that arrived in Germany. I got it at the beginning of November '13.

The shop owner where I bought it asked Fender why mine has a "normal" logo and some a transiton logo. We didn't get an answer till today.

I will post it after I got an answer!

Anyway the strat is awesome. A real tone monster and it plays and feel perfectly!

I got mine as well.... Spaghetti logo.... Awesome guitar. Perfect neck, not too thin..
Sort of like a Clapton without the slight V.

Plays like a guitar with a bigger radius... Action is nice and low.... Still trying to figure out the best pickup settings....all 5 positions are real strong....
