I'm in the game (or will be in the game in the future) for a CS Strat. I think many have requested much more crazy things from the CS, but my requests are just very specific, and I want to make sure I go with a dealer that appreciates and accommodates attention to detail.

My questions are the following:
(1) What dealer would you recommend that you have experience with for this type of attention to detail? I included some of the non-price sheet requests that I'll be asking for below for an idea of the kind of detail I'm looking for.
(2) Would the custom shop even be open to doing these things? I know that they're not willing to do certain things, like grabbing specs off of Signature guitars, but I don't know if there are additional things that they WON'T do as well.

The things I'll be requesting are the following. These things have more to do with wood selection and special requests which aren't on the price list sheet. I'm wondering if there's a dealer out there that won't think I'm crazy, or at least will be very accommodating with this level of detail.
Basically a '63 Strat template.
Wood selection:
-A 2-piece symmetrical seam alder body with a specific grain pattern and rough weight.
-A tightly grained, straight grained quartersawn maple neck. Light flame.
Relicing:
-A specific sunburst finish that..I know it's weird...but basically the same pattern as this Classic Vibe Squier (http://www.gearnuts.com/images/closeup/ ... B_body.jpg). See how the yellow in the burst is very subtle compared to this Strat? (http://www.themusiczoo.com/images/7-13- ... 6184_1.jpg) The Classic Vibe type of sunburst is what I want. I feel the need to specify this because I've never seen a 3-color burst CS Strat with such a small "yellow area" like the Squier. Also, since I know that nitro and polyester are applied differently, I want the end-result CS nitro sprayed color to look like the same shades of color as the poly sprayed Squier.
-Lightly reliced with a specific "pick" wear pattern that I will sketch out.
-Back of neck is sanded down, but with no staining. I'll have pictures of examples of necks that I like.
Other Things:
>An early '60s neck profile with some modification (same contour, but it'll be a different neck taper)
>Wide, non-'63 12th fret markers.
>A 10" radius.
>Pickguard screw adjacent to the middle pickup height screw.

Am I that crazy? Hopefully not. I hope there's a dealer out there who will be accommodating to these details. I also hope that the CS will be as well. I anticipate this would have to be a Masterbuilt order and have a Masterbuilt price tag. Oh well...this is really what I want. :)

Does that mean it's too "custom" for the Custom Shop?

As far as any specific grain pattern I think that's out. For the rest, IF they were to accommodate it would have to be a masterbuilt order. I don't think the dealer selection would make much difference as long as they are patient enough to entertain your requests.

I'd say don't get your hopes up for every tiny detail to be actually done as you want. Expect them to adhere to the general specs at most.

From my experience, I ordered a team built guitar to be finished in poly, and I received a guitar finished in nitro... They received all the specs correctly at the factory as I filled out in the form, yet they plain didn't do it as specified.

This is Masterbuilt level without a doubt, but all of your requests can be met. Expect a heavy price tag as some of this will take extra time, especially finding the right grain patterns, and time translates into money at the CS.

You will have to be very specific and detailed when talking to your dealer, then the builder.

Any one of the big CS dealers will do a great job. Wildwood, The Music Zoo, Make'n Music, Wild West... No worries, they know how to make a custom order happen.

I just bought a FCS Strat from Wildwest, great selection, good people to deal with it. Also, a great facility. Give them a chance to earn your business, I don't think you'll be dissapointed.
