I got the "normal" EJ Strat about 6 months ago. I really like it, and from the reviews about, the consensus seems to be that Eric (and Fender!) did a lot of things right concerning this guitar.

Fender does "Signature" models of the Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck models, but not the EJ.

Just curious if there was a reason why. If Fender did, I'd certainly be interested in one! ;)

I've never looked, but what are the differences between normal production models and the other signature CS models they do? Like the EC and RT ones?

I can imagine that they cherry pick the wood for the neck and body, possibly better match the pickups, more care and attention to detail in terms of how everything is put together (yeah, OK, it *is* Fender, but I could hope! :) ), etc.

Just curious ...

I heard somewhere that he was considering doing a model with a rosewood board, so a Cstom Shop model would be a perfect opportunity! :D

But there isn't an official CS EJ Strat though. Unless he had one custom made, specially ordered, from the Custom Shop with all the EJ specifics. But that wouldn't be cheap either! ;)

There's a video at Musicians Friend where EJ shows a prototype of the rosewood neck model, it's pretty nice
I've been lucky enough to pick up 2 EJ Strats, a blonde and a sunburst
love the neck- read there was some problems on the first run or so?

hi guys... does your eric johnson guitar neck pickup less loud than the bridge and middle pickups? I just got mine but i kinda noticed that whenever I toggle the switch to neck pickup, the sound is less loud than the middle and bridge pickups... is this normal? the sound is pretty much when turning off the volume for the bridge pickup... thanks guys!

You likely have those observations dimed. In the case of the Clapton, there are two additional colors, the signature is on the BACK of the headstock; the wood grain is a bit more elegant, the neck finish lighter, and the neck taper is reported to be a bit more pronounced.
