Hi,
not being able to get one of the few John Mayer Black One Relics my idea is to custom order a masterbuild strat with the exact same relic look and quite the same ingredients except for the tuners and the gold parts. Do you think the custom shop will recreate an "almost" twin of such a limited guitar?

If you drop the "exact same relic look" requirement for a generic heavy relic, don't mention John Mayer at all, and retrofit it with big dipper pickups from e-Bay, you might get close to what you want.
But then you might be better off buying one of the extant ones and swapping out the hardware.

(Some will undoubtedly want to nail me to the wall for suggesting such sacrilege...)

There are heavy relic black Custom Shop guitars available through vendors like Wildwood, The Music Zoo, Wild West Guitars, Dave's Guitar Shop, etc...with the vibe of both the Clapton and Mayer guitars, but FMIC will not reproduce the precise wear pattern of either of those two instruments, or any other previous LTD model runs, particularly the Tribute Series guitars.

This looks like Bryant Park NYC when Fender launch the SunStrat/Amp promo. If so, Mayer is playing a guitar the Custom Shop put together for him. It's a SunStrat with Mayer's neck and Big Dipper pickups. Ask me how I know???? Eldred gave me a 'thumbs up' for spotting the fact that the neck was different. They're playing 'Crossroads'. There's a video out there of it as well.
