I have a 1963 CS Strat- Does anybody know what value caps the CS uses for their vintage style strats? I know real vintage strats used .1uf.

I have another strat style guitar that has .022 and it seems to have a brighter or clearer tone even when the tone pot is full up. This guitar has a slight "muffled" sound in comparison. Both have the same pickups. Obviously being different guitars it might not be the cap, but Im inclined to think that might have something to do with it.
thank you

It's reasonable to assume that the CS uses vintage-spec caps in their vintage reissues, so most likely it has the darker sounding .1 cap.

But the cap value should have very little effect when the tone is turned all the way up to "10". The volume pot's value (yes, volume) should have a greater influence. While both your Strats probably have 250K pots, that's a nominal value -- actual value can vary by 20% +/-. If your brighter guitar has a 280K pot and the darker one has a 220K pot, that could easily account for the difference.

While some people disagree, I've found that acoustic tone does have an influence on electric tone. Unplugged, does your brighter Strat sound brighter than your darker Strat?

Pickups have some winding tolerances. Slightly overwound pickups will sound darker than same-model pickups that are slightly underwound.

Pickup height has a significant influence on tone. Are the pickups on both guitars exactly the same distance from the strings?
