Hello guys,

this is my first post. So, I'd like to say hello to everybody here.
My name is Fabian, I'm 27 and I'm from Germany.

Now, I got a problem and I hope that you and the Fender guys can help me...

I was at Fender Visitor Center in September and I took the factory tour. By the way, it was a great tour! fantastic!
Ok.... let's go on...

When we arrived at the Custom Shop our tour guide showed us a sunburst strat. I saw this one and I fell in love with it. I don't know why but I have to get this Strat.
Our tour guide said it was a '64 or '65 relic Custom Shop Strat. But I'm sure he said it is a '64 Strat. It wasn't a single produced model because there were at least 5 of these Strats standing in a stand.

Here are some photos of the guitar as he showed it to us:

A friend of mine who runs a guitar shop called the German custom shop and asked for that Strat. We sent the pictures to Fender as well.

I got answer that there will be a limited '64 Time Machine Closet Classic Strat with the "L" serial number for 2014. But the Strat I saw at the tour was a relic and not a closet classic.

So, is there anybody who can help me to identify this guitar??

I was at Fender on September, 3rd and it was the first tour this day!

Thank you very much for your help!

Best regards

Fabian

Hi,

thanks for the answer.

Nice strat but this picture doesn't help.

As I get the answer from Fender last week that they offer a limited run of a sunburst '64 Stratocaster with the L-serial number, I ordered one because at first the German Fender guys and I thought that this is the 64' CS Strat I have seen at the factory tour this year.

But as we received photos it was clear that this new 2014 limited Strat is not the one I have seen at the factory tour. But I'm curious about this ltd Strat, so I did not cancelled the order and we will see how this one sounds.

It is '64 Strat with an alder body, sunburst closet classic finish, special custom shop pickups, round lam fretboard and only 40 made! that's all I know and that's all what Fender published about this guitar...

I just want a '64 because I own a '64 Super Reverb and a '64 Concert. A '64 Strat (even if it's reliced) would fit great, hehe...

Thanks

Fabian

There's so much stuff going through there that its could be difficult for anyone of us to know what 'run' the employee was showing you a sample of. You could have been looking at a sample of a factory special run [FSR] for Wildwood Guitars, for example. A great help would have been that guitar's serial number. Suggest you forward the same inquiry along with pictures attached to consumerrelations@fender.com. Your visit date is recent enough for them to be able to backtrack it to person in the photo. That might do the trick. Keep us posted on what you find out.

Doc

Be patient. They will answer you as soon as possible. I've an issue of my own which I've just sent them. Where research is required, it takes awhile. Also...keep in mind the time difference in locations. They are three hours behind me and at least six behind you.

Thanks.

Yes, I can imagine they get more than just my request ;-)

I'm not in a hurry...

I just ordered this beautiful limited edition CS '64 L-series Strat. If it's nice I take it, if not I will wait what Fender will tell me...

I'm wondering if they can find out what Strat it was...

By the way: Corona is 9 hours behind me... ;-)

Hey,

I got an answer today.

They really found out what Strat it was.

A custom shop dealer ordered this guitar. Seems the shop ordered several of these strats.

No chance to get this one but I'm really looking forward to the new 2014 custom shop limited Closet Classic '64 strat with the L-serial...
The strat will arrive in the next few weeks, so I will keep you updatet!

As I suspected. You might inquire as to who placed the order and find out if the dealer still has it in stock. I'd take a wild guess and go to the Wildwood Guitar website and look at their Custom Shop stock. It just might be them, and the guitar might be there. Regardless, see if you can find out who placed the order, just for the hell of it.

Otherwise I can order a 64 custom shop strat that will look nearly the same like the one I saw...

But will they tell me who placed the order?

You can do what pleases you in the end, but there's only one way to find out who the dealer is, dude. It's 2 p.m. on the West Coast. Send your email now.

Hey,

what an amazing last week I had.

I wrote in that thread that I ordered this 2014 '64 Anniversary Closet Classic Strat with the L-series neckplate.

Last week it has arrived and as I opened the case a wonderful smell came into my nose and I had started to smile. This guitar is a real beauty and I fell in love with it, hehe...

Awesome closet classic finish and a wonderful sunburst finish.

It feels perfect to me like I played it for the last 10 years. It fits perfect and the sound is from another strat world. The typical strat sounds but more stratty and extreme wooden. If you turn down the volume pot a bit the wooden tone comes out more. Never had this before.
It's not a fat sounding strat but it's totally well-balanced. There's no pickup or string that is louder than the other. It's a complete guitar.

It's my first CS strat (but not my last) and I think that is what the CS is all about. A well-balanced and complete and perfect sounding instrument....

Overall awesome guitar!!! The best Strat I ever had.

I will try to upload some photos of the guitar later on....

Fabian

Yep...they do tend to feel just a 'tad' different from what one is accustomed to finding on 'the wall'. Have a good time.
