Indeed... I suppose the dealer might have to make the request for this, but I also suppose that the dealer should really be looking at this on behalf of their customer, the OP, and not leaving him concerned about whether he gets the pickups he has ordered.

I may be incorrect about this assumption but, from the way the Custom Shop website explains it, the relationship between the Masterbuilder and the customer does not have to go through channels for them to communicate.

I asked Todd (first name terms) to mail me when he built my first Start and he did. We all treat email differently. I one of those sad people who checks mail all the time  , others take longer so I haven't given up hope yet.

That was also my perception of how the Custom Shop website explains it. Obviously, at least the initial contact isn't a routine procedure. Surprise, surprise.

Ah, so it's not the first time you're working with Todd. Well, make sure to get his number this time (and please PM me ...)

Cheers

David

Maybe they don't want their customers 'bugging' their employees. If so, they ought to change their policy and drop their MSRP's. When my home was being remodeled and I was working with an architect, a contractor, and an interior designer, there was no chance in hell that I couldn't get in touch.

I'm not sure what that sort of policy would have to do with MSRPs. Sure, Fender's MSRPs are laughable, and presumably only serve to let stores claim that Fenders are on sale when in reality they're not - not even the most expensive boutique stores charge anywhere near the MSRP. But I don't see how that has anything to do with call screening (or lack thereof).

Part of what the customer is paying for is a working relationship with the Masterbuilder who should be available for consultation as needed. If that's not the case, knock a grand off the price.

Next move?? Have a look at the Masterbuilt Strats on the Wildwood Guitar website. Most of 'em have Cruz Master-Design pickups. Maybe you should cancel your order with the Custom Shop.

I would write a nasty letter and cancel my order. Also I would flip out a bit after waiting so long and the being to I'm not getting what I ordered.

Short of making a trip out there and having at the shop with an RPG, IMHO you're dealing with a breach of contract in so far as your purchase order contained certain specifications which they failed to secure for you and/or failed to notify you the unavailability of by the time of manufacture. Are there disclaimers to the above on the purchase order agreements one signs with Fender? [The last time I ordered from the Custom Shop I didn't fill out any forms. Told my dealer what I wanted, and they handled it.] If there are no such disclaimers you should be within your legal rights to cancel the order on the grounds of breach of contract, for a full refund.

I filled in a full Fender spec sheet. It wouldn't be so bad but in July '12 I mailed the custom shop guy to ensure that the spec sheet included the ABYY HANDWOUND spec and not the team wound version. The spec sheet came back 5th July 2012.

I would normally defend fender to the last but this is shoddy and poorly planned. Mike hasn't answered my PM so I guess he is n't bothered anymore :(

Bail out on the grounds of breach of contract. They'll sell the guitar to Wildwood.

Gee for an order placed 2011 that just sucks man!
I'd cancel and go for something like a second hand teambuilt custom deluxe or similar with Abby handwounds. :D
