Have you spoken with the Masterbuilder about it?

I paid the deposit for my master built in May 2011. Still waiting patiently but now I understand that I can't be guaranteed the Hand wound Abigail Ybarra Pickups that I specified. Can you just confirm this Mike please. Are there none put by for customers like me who ordered these a long time ago?

If your dealer ordered it in 2011 ( are they ? ) Somebody did not do his job at Fender .

I see what you mean but I don't want to start a finger pointing exercise, I just want to know whether there is any chance of getting the 'A Y' pups that I asked for.

I think a call, or at least an email, to the Masterbuilder is something to be done.
It is a Masterbuilt guitar, and the Masterbuilders are used to customers contacting them with queries about a build.

I suggest you to pick a set of JC handwounds for a try (since the Abbeywounds are no longer available), I'm pretty certain you'll be very happy with those babies.

Stand by and just follow this thread for a time  . You're not earning any brownie points here presently :? . We 'nut jobs' in the mad mad world of guitar have created a 'legend in her own time' in the person of Abigail Ybarra. Hence, there's a premium understood with respect to any guitar which is fitted with hand wound pickups by Abby. This is what he wanted, ordered and paid for. That we are 18 mos into the order is no surprise to me, having been there and done that. Her leaving was made public by Fender and, having learned that, I would have had my dealer by the throat to assure me that Fender was setting a set of Abby-wounds aside for my guitar. If it's that important to the build, cancel the job unless they can assure you that you are going to get what you paid for. Believe me, the dealer will not be taking
a loss. What ever that guitar arrives with, it will be sold.

Fully agreed taking into consideration when the order was placed.

Chromeface, the OP doesn't want Josefina Handwounds but rather Abby handwounds. Of course, this is what he originally ordered and made payments towards. In addition, for a person who is well verse in guitars, I'm certain you have Fender Custom Shop guitars with both Abby and Josefina pickups. I'm assumming you're talking from experience, so what is the tonality difference between the winds? Abby had around 60 years of experience and Josefina has not. Abby pickups are worth more money and will probably be highly collectable in the future. Abby was there since the infancy of Fender Musical Instruments and she has a legacy. Josefina does not, infact, her PR is based off the legacy of a legend. Like anybody else, Josefina has to create her own legacy and that will take decades of work. Legendary status is not given, but earned!

Todd Krause - so he has been busy on Brownie lately but I would have thought that maybe there is a storeman who would look at the order and put parts by at the time of order. But then again maybe not.

I have mailed him but no reply as yet.

I had two of his master-built Strats, both beauties but I sold one to make way for this one. I wish I could get it back now

Ah!! I pretty much suspected as such. His wait time has been quoted as two years. The 'Brownie' project is history, and you are supposed to have access to him as needed. Suppose you ring him up and see what's what.

He'll have his own phone no. I suspect, but if you don't know it then the switchboard at the Corona, CA factory should be able to put you through.

I suppose that's not the way. I suppose the dealer will have to make a request and only then you'll get the number. Would be too easy otherwise, anyone can call and ask for Todd Krause.

I just wonder why things aren't perfect in this world.

BTW, I wouldn't worry too much about this. I'm quite sure the masterbuilders have their private stock of pickups. They had long enough time to get prepared.

Cheers

David
