I paid the deposit for my master built in May 2011. Still waiting patiently but now I understand that I can't be guaranteed the Hand wound Abigail Ybarra Pickups that I specified. Can you just confirm this Mike please. Are there none put by for customers like me who ordered these a long time ago?

Abby has been retired since, Josefina winds the pickups nowadays.

Winding pickups with Abby for teacher ( teaching Josefina ? ) is not a rocket science.

IMO Josephina do same good job as Abbygail.

But have a name of Abby on pickup is not same as Josefina.

Oh dear! Have you been told by the dealer that you definitely can't get Abby pups, or just that there is that possibility? If the latter, I think I would hold out hope, at least until, or unless, I was told that there were definitely no more Abby pups.
Unfortunately, this is a situation that was bound to occur. Even if the CS were stockpiling Abbeywounds while she was still winding, they could only set aside a finite number, and some types will get used up faster than others, as well.

I hope that you get your Abby pups, but I can certainly imagine that some will not get them.
However, I really don't imagine that Josefina's pickup winds will be inferior in any way. They are still handwound, and wound by the person that the Custom Shop decided could best take over when Abby retired!

FMIC should have bought her name to put on pickups even though she retired. Would have been nice chunk of retirement money for her and good business deal for Fender.

Why not changing your mind and pick Josefina handwounds instead? Josefina took the torch from Abby recently and winds pickups with the same skillful experience as her grandteacher!

I suggest you to pick a set of JC handwounds for a try (since the Abbeywounds are no longer available), I'm pretty certain you'll be very happy with those babies.

The only way to say so would be to A/B them against AY ones, but that's might be difficult practically...
