Scroll down to Stratroc's post and our last discussion on this in early September. Nothing more than that thus far. If they do a version of his current stage guitar, it will likely be a blond Strat[a clone of his '89 CS body] with a V-neck, Vintage Noiseless pickups on a white guard, and a passive circuit. Nothing really exciting, quite honestly. They'd have been better off doing an MIA Artist Series version of the polka dot, with all the bells and whistles of the original [Lace Sensors and active electronics] instead of relegating it to a blah MIM version. But what do we know. :?:  We only buy them. If you log into Premier Guitar.com and go to the Search box in the UR corner>Buddy Guy, you can get to the rig rundown on the 2011 tour which you may find of interest, if you've not seen it as yet.

Two of his polka dots do have all those features.

This is likely the MIM guitar which his tech spoke of in the Premier Guitar video. It's got the circuitry as mentioned in our discussion, but the polka dot pattern is the giveaway. I used to own one which I upgraded to DiMarzio Virtual Vintage/Vintage Blues pickups which are noiseless.

The original black one has a denser polka dot pattern similar to the red shown.

I wonder if they swapped out that el-cheepo bridge and block for the American vintage version? That would have been my next step had I not swapped the guitar out for something else. Nevertheless, I set it up like a Clapton with a blocked trem.

I thought it would be the iridescent blue polka dot rather than his personal blond guitar.

There have been at least versions of Buddy's Strats. One of them, which isn't produced anymore, was just like the EC Strat. It came in Honey Burst and 2-color-sunburst.

Vous avez raison, mon ami. With the exception of neck and finishes, the same platform. The guitar Paris refers to can be seen in the video Chromeface recently posted on a Jeff Beck guitar thread, with BB King and friends at the Apollo. I remember when Guitar Player Mag did a cover story on him featuring that guitar. I have also noted, in prior discussions that, about 20 years ago, Fender produced a Buddy Guy model with a 12db midboost circuit in honey blond with a tortoise shell guard and conventional pups. He then moved to the LS model, and I contend that the preceding model then became the Powerhouse Strat. As far as what is coming down the pike, Chromeface and I have two differing theories. According to the guitar tech in the Premier Guitar video, the '89 is his main stage guitar, a fact which moves my contention. It remains to be seen.

If you watch the 2nd part of the Apollo gig (Let The Good Times Roll), you'll certainly notice Buddy playing a black Strat with a 1-ply 8-hole white guard.

Not certain if it's a Clapton signature or (possibly but not likely) a special one-off guitar made for him.

.....and in the very opening shot, you see Buddy's guitar on the stand behind Eric, and he uses it. Right before the closing starts you can see the crew bring Buddy a new guitar, and take the blond guitar off stage. I would suspect he might have broken a string or it needed a tuning. They may have brought out one of Eric's backups.

I got to see Buddy Guy play in Nashville and meet him as he left for the evening. No matter what guitar he plays, he is a great player and a personal guitar hereo of mine. No one builds tension in their playing like he does.

The CS folks did the same job for the internal dummy coil and the no-load circuit, with the former removed from the pickup cavities and the latter replaced by a TBX tone control.

In a few words Buddy made the switch to the Lace Sensors and Elite circuitry.

The guitar remained unchanged, only the pickups and electronics were upgraded.

I remember the cover photo [and article ]of the Guitar Player mag on which he was first featured with the guitar shown above. There was never any discussion about the details of how he arrived at it, other than Fender asking him to pick a neck of his choice from a selection. In fact, it wasn't until he began favoring the blond Strat on state again 3 years ago that I learned it was an '89 Custom Shop build. So where has all this other info been hiding all these years.
