One really hates to be bringing up negative responses when a member offers a contribution, but Fender always seems to need a tap on the shoulder it seems. The guitar aside, just look at those ID stamps in the neck pocket! We see that more often than not, and it's not just because the ink bleeds into the unsealed wood. Is it because they're sloppy and uncaring, or because the size of the stamp block won't give it access to the pocket? Many of you may not be old enough to remember the way librarians used to manually log out books. They had a small date stamp mounted on the end of a pencil which was changed daily. If the NYC Public Library System of 60 years ago could accomplish that feat, I have no doubt that something of that ilk could be provided to the guitar builders. What's the point of stepping on each other? It voids the purpose entirely.

sorry about the giant pictures. i'll resize and repost.

it's nearly impossible to find a scalloped board masterbuilt that isn't an yngwie duck repro.

i was fortunate enough to acquire this guitar from my friend for whom it was originally built.

i could not be happier with the instrument. it's had two decades to acclimate to being a fine musical instrument.

That Strat with its Tele neck is a pure delight!

FYI... this guitar deserves a Nocaster bridge pickup to round out the package. :)

Because it is damn confusing.
Why is top-posting a bad idea?

That said, I think the guitar itself is great, except for one thing - the curve on the wood grain at the bottom of the guitar makes it look odd. Quite odd. Enough so that the shape of the guitar is interpreted wrongly. It looks like the guitar is bending where it is flat.
I say the guitar itself looks excellent, but the pick of wood is a big WTF.

Frankly, it's a guitar I'd love to own, but then I'd re-finish it in a single color, to hide that wood grain optical illusion.

It's a bit puzzling for a Custom Shop guitar not to have enjoyed a better grain match. I'd expect to see something of that sort on a production line guitar. We're a good 20 years further on down the road with the Custom Shop nowadays. Perhaps their criteria were not as particular back then.

it's an extraordinary instrument. i've been looking for a scalloped board vintage style strat for years.

i feel very fortunate to have found a 20 year old masterbuilt strat with all my desert island specs. it was built for a friend who is an extraordinary player.

larry brooks was the artist relations builder at the time this guitar was crafted, so it was his responsibility to build fender artist's instruments. it's an exceptionally well crafted, resonant and responsive instrument.

the fact that it's had 20 years to stabilize/be a guitar is very appealing to me.

At the end of the day, that is the bottom line.

With normal size pics the body don't looks so strange. I think it was just the way the pics were taken.
