Curently, there are 3 Custom Shop J's:

1) Reggie Hamilton Jazz Bass
2) Time Machine Series '64 Jazz Bass
3) Custom Classic Jazz Bass

In your opinion, what is the best custom bass currently available?

Which one has the thinnest neck?
I really like the Geddy Lee bass with it's slimmer neck, but want a higher quality bass. (If they made a similar custom shop Jazz with the shaved neck, i'd be first in line).

Hi JC...

Yes, I understand the difficulty in choosing between high-end Custom Shop basses. It's tough when you can't play each bass side-by-side.

Here's my 2006 Fender Custom Classic Jazz. I love it.

I've also ordered the Masterbuilt '66 Jazz to achieve the passive pick-up tone. I know I'll be happy with that one too.

Good luck!

Scott

i am a guitar student but i recently bought a JACO signature model it has helped me alot to not rely on frets to acquire proper tone. just something you might want to consider.

I think you should ask yourself first if you like passive or active more.

I have two 64' Relic jazz basses and a Custom Classic 5 string.
I love them all! They each offer me something. I've never tried out a Reggie Hamilton, so I can't offer an opinion.
I'll say one thing...if it's a Custom Shop...you really can't go wrong! :D

I haven't had much luck getting a reponse from Fender about a Masterbuilt J-bass I want built. I went through the largest Guitar Center in the Chicago area and got a ballpark price, but when I gave them more detail all communication stopped. I've written to consumer relations here and didn't even get a reply. Anyone know of a direct contact?
