That was the article in Vintage Guitar. I don't know how often he even uses it, if at all. In that he's returned to the '89, they'd create more interest with a CS Signature Series copy of that blond Strat, in that they've already delegated the black polka dot guitar to the Artist Series MIM source bin. I had one of those, and I swapped out the Mex pups for DiMarzio Heavy Blues Noiseless which were better.

No, not a Tribute guitar, mind you. They missed their shot at that with the Polka Dot, IMHO. Besides, those 'in orbit' MSRP's are really prejudiced against the faithful and there's nothing truly iconic about anything other than the polka-dot where he's concerned. No, in the same fashion as they did the Gilmour...NOS or Relic. Buddy was quoted as saying that the Polka Dot has to be marketed at a price point that the majority of his audience could access. Not unlike DG in philosophy.

Besides, to my memory, the Polka Dot is the third Artist Series guitar they've offered. There was a short lived model in the early nineties w/ a 12db midboost before they went to the Claptonesque model in two finish options and then eventually DC'd it. So which is the definitive BG Stratocaster, then.

I happen to know, from personal sources, that the blond guitar was taken apart, detailed and photographed, during the Crossroads Concert 3 years ago. What the plan from that, back then, I assumed was to created the blond guitar for production.

Still waiting, I suppose. The blue one, does nothing for me.

Keep in mind that the original black polka dot guitar came with the lace golds and active circuitry.

For a brief time Buddy put a pair of humbuckers on it.

Bear in mind that the stage guitar you're describing was 'equipped with the Clapton circuit'', it was never in production as such. They brought the polka dot guitar out through Mexico whilst the old Artist Series guitars were still available. I put the DiMarzio's in it because the stock pups had a terrible hum. The DiMarzio Vintage Blues series had just been marketed so I put one at the neck, and middle, a Heavy Blues at the bridge. I also blocked the trem ala the Clapton. The bridge block on the MIM guitar is a stock MIM, half as thick as the MIA vintage Strat block.

The polka dot pattern on the original stage guitar was different...denser in terms of numbers...than the production version. You likely have pics. Compare the patterns on the Lace Sensor and HB guitars and see if they are the same. There's also been a black on white, which I nicknamed 'The Dalmation' guitar. The Custom Shop refused to build it for me on request. There was also a very rare white on red. One of our number, very early on in the inception of the Forums, managed to get his hands on one. Now he's gone on to this '89. You'll find posts by me on the Eldred thread in excess of three years back inquiring about that guitar.

What will they do? Cobble together a host of photos of the young Buddy with his first Strat, build a composite guitar for a Tribute series model as they did for the Holly and set an MSRP of $10K for it. Uffff!!!! :|

The guitar you're talking about was exclusively built for Buddy himself. The CS cannot build the "dalmatian" for everyone without the artist's consent.
