Hi. First post.

Bought a Custom Shop Strat yesterday. It was first sold here in New Zealand in 1991 and has been with the same owner ever since. It was, apparently, a special order (in that, I think, it has gold parts). I'll try to attach a pic of the neck pocket etc.

How can I access the Custom Shop records for my guitar? I'd love to know more about it.

Thanks.

Gee that V0 is an old custom serial thats for sure.
Try emailing fender via consumerrelations@fender.com with the serial.
If you are lucky maybe Rob will see this and look it up for you .... If there is any record.. :D

The red "oval" Custom Shop Logo is accurate for the time period. This was the logo they used before they went to the cheron

Sent an email to the address provided. Thanks for that.

Guessing the AE stamped into the body relates to Art Esparza?

I don't think so. The builder's name would be in the neck pocket.

Coincidence perhaps then (as the name Art Esparza is stamped in the neck pocket - see pic above)? Any idea what the stamp in the body means?

Also, what does this say do you think?

You mentioned 'Rob'. Don't know who Rob is but if he's the resident expert would you be so kind as to PM him about the thread? Really keen to find out all I can about the guitar.

Those numbers / letters in the body must mean something and the reference to 'port 5' (if that's what it says) - what's that all about?

Thanks in advance for any help members are able to provide. It is much appreciated.

Molly.

Why not sending yourself a PM to him? He would be very glad to help you identify your axe further.

Rob is one of the Forum Moderators.

I personally never cease to be amazed at the slovenly way information was placed in the neck pockets and neck ends of guitars, not to mention the inconsistency in the used of serial numbers and build dates over the years. Even Rob has come back stymied at times, because the archive data is incomplete or writing illegible.

Hey. Whadaya know... You're right. Rob's been in touch (thank you, Rob) and it seems 'Direct Imports' relates to the NZ importer. Hoping he's able to dig out whatever's in the records relating to the serial number.

Didn't get the authenticity certificate sadly but am hoping it's still with the original owner.

:-)
