Hi

New to the forum. Just purchased a CS strat off Ebay. No COA, but looking at pictures of it apart it appears to be legit. Is there a way to find out about R31356?

thanks in advance

If you send all the details you have..serial number, etc. to consumerrelations@fender.com they should be able to give you info and specs for your guitar! :)

Let us know what they tell you. 'R' may signal a 'reissue' series.

Thanks guys ill look into that. Pretty sure the "R" stands for relic as I have two vintage reissues that have a "V" serial #

Hello I don't know if this is of any help but I have 2 Custom Shop Time Machine series and both started had R serial numbers, one is a NOS 56 Strat and the other is a Relic 60 Strat. I also have a 2007 57 Heavy Relic NAMM Limited Edition Strat and the serial number starts with CZ. So my guess and I may be wrong may indicate it's a Time Machine Series. Again only my guess but hope this may help.

It can take a little time to get a reply from Fender Consumer Relations as it's a busy department! :)

Hi TNHotRod62,
Since we use the same databases, unfortunately I don't believe that Consumer Relations will be able to track the guitar by serial number.
As the others advised, not a bad idea to post some pics. I'm sure someone can help you figure out what it is.
Sorry it didn't track!
All the best,
rob

Thanks guys. I appreciate all the help and pointers.
I got the guitar a few days and I'm on vacation now
So I'll just post the eBay pics. It's incredibly light and has
The most beautiful rosewood fretboard that looks only like
One other guitar I've seen that was a real 61 strat with a BR
Board. Here goes the link to the bid that includes pics. If it doesn't work
I'll have to post pics when I get home

Thanks

I have my own theories on the origins of this guitar
I'm wondering if it came from Wildwood. My mind may be playing
Tricks but is that a JC initialed pick guard? It came from the Denver area
Close to where wilwood is located. I haven't opened it back up since I got it.

Looks like a custom shop 60s time machine variant to me.
Maybe Rob could tell you why the neck is marked 61....maybe dealer order or some other so your Wildwood 61 guess could be on the button.
Fairly light relicing compared to the ones they currently have.
Check the radius and the frets since the original time machine has a very slim early 60 s neck with generally 7.5 radius fretboard and vintage frets and the suggested Wildwood is mid 60 and 10 radius. Remember anything is possible.
Not that much help I know.
Maybe you could email them:D

That's what throws me. It definitely has a slimmer neck, but keep
In mind that my other two strats are hotrod 62s with probably one of the fattest
Production necks made. The radius feels pretty flat though and the action is super low, the frets are definitely vintage and not medium jumbo. The rosewood fret board is not grainy at all and feels glassy almost like a maple cap. That's what drew me into this one. Like I a said I've never seen figuring on a RW board like this except for a real 61 that had BR. My guess on the neck being stamped 61 and the body 60 would be that there probably isn't any difference between a CS 60 and 61 body since there are little if any between the actual vintage pieces so they just used a 60 body to build the guitar. Maybe Rob can chime on and clarify. I'm also wondering IF those " JC" initials are for John Cruz. No, I don't think this is a master built but I know that wildwood was using his spec pickups.

Thanks

In the discussion, leave room for consideration of the individualities extant in the hand finishing process which is why, production line standards not withstanding, no two guitars of the same model in the same batch are really ever alike. Close...but no cigar.
