This Fender Custom Shop '59 Precision Bass has a Jazz Bass logo on the headstock. How on earth is this possible????

The bass can be found at the European music shop, Thomann.

Putting a Jazz Bass neck on a P Bass body used to be a fairly common mod, back before the Custom Shop and the plethora of different Jazzes, Precisions, and aftermarket parts.

So it might not be a "mistake". It might be a homage to the mongrel modded basses of yesteryear. The Custom Shop has done "59 Strats" with bridge humbuckers -- again not "mistakes", just recreations of modified old guitars.

For example, this CS is a "reissue" of a guitar that Fender never made. Back before '62 Strats were valuable vintage guitars, they were just workhorses that people modified to suit their needs.

edited to add:
two volume controls with a blend circuit and the 2-point trem are also "incorrect" for a '62 Strat, but they're intentional changes, not "mistakes".

That may be, bit look at the width of the neck. It's not a jazz neck.

My eyes aren't sharp enough to judge that from those pics.

I tried to find that bass on Thomann's site so I could read their description of it, but I couldn't find it (there doesn't seem to be a link to the description on the picture page). Do you perhaps have a link to their description?

No, it's not for sale any more. I e-mailed them, pointing out the error, and they've sent it back to Fender.

Oh, well then, if it really was a mistake that's pretty shocking.

Them sending it back seems kind of excessive. A '59 CC should have the logo decal on top of the finish -- any Fender Authorized tech could have gotten a new proper/correct decal and replaced it in about 5 minutes (plus overnight drying time).

Or with documentation from the seller that it came that way from the CS, I'll bet someone would have bought it for the novelty factor.

not to mention the S1 switch to split/tap the bridge HB and the 5-way pickup selector for a huge spectrum of killer tones!
:P

Mistakes happen.

My 2005 American Standard came from the factory with a Deluxe (pop in trem) bridge.
