Ouch!!! We'd sure like to know where the dealer is....and....you can tell them you told us.

The specs on the CS Signature Clapton Strat can be found on the CS website. The finishes indicated are the only finishes authorized for that series. There were two LTD's about 3 years ago but that's old news and discontinued. The production line Artist Series has different finish options. There are no satin finishes in the Clapton line. Even if this were a nitro finish, which houses like Wildwood Guitars special order, there should still be a bit of a 'gloss' to it. It's not that old a guitar yet to have loss the sheen. There should be dates and signatures on both the neck end and in the neck pocket.

You can send the serial number to consumerrelations@fender.com and ask them if they have records on that guitar and whether or not it was a 'special order' on which a satin finish was requested. Tell the dealer that even though you're passing on this purchase you're waiting a response from Fender to corroborate the specs of this guitar and the veracity of his representations. Let him know that there are Fender enthusiasts out there who take a very dim view of this kind of stuff and are out to protect the brand and the unwary consumer.

Otherwise, though it appears to be a nice guitar, IMHO this guitar has been heavily modified as mentioned elsewhere. The COA ideally should not be framed and is generally of heavy weight paper. The sample offered you is representative of same. If the guitar is clean, is a good player, and has all the electronic features of the Clapton Strat, I'd offer them $1000, which is probably more than they paid in trade for it. I'd also steer clear of the place in the future or, at best, be very careful about what you see there for sale. This is what comes of parts and stuff like COA's, and neck plates, being sold separately, a very hot topic argued in these pages heavily over the years. Not to mention after-market hardware, parts, pre-wired scratchplates and the like.

Keep us posted on any new developments in this case.

Doc

The Wildwood thinskin nitros do have a wider choice of colours than the stock Custom Artist series which lists Mercedes Blue, Midnight Blue and Black as the available finishes.

No sure if the goldleafed Master Built EC Customs still remain into production. :|

The last EC Goldleaves I saw dated from 2010, handcrafted by Yuriy Shishkov and Dennis Galuszka.

In their current inventory, they are offering two Torino Red guitar which do not have a thin skin nitro finish. These 'red' guitars demonstrate that there is an exception to every rule thus the idea of asking for the Dalmation to be built was not too far out of the box. I wonder if they would do it for Wildwood if the vendor placed such an order.

I recalled they had a couple of Candy Green EC Customs in stock.

Unfortunately this finish has been dropped from the colour chart after Clapton's request.

I have a chance to get my hands on a 2011 Eric Clapton custom shop Fender Strat. I have some concerns about it and was hoping someone on this forum will be able to help me out...

The neck has the custom shop emblem on the back with Clapton's signature and "BLACKIE" stamped. Also has same serial number as the one on the certificate of authenticity.

The body is a flat black (instead of the glossy black finish) with the Corona California neck plate rather than the custom shop :? . It has noiseless pickups, comes with a regular black fender case, and certificate of authenticity. It looks like a real Clapton neck put on a different body. Were there any flat black custom shop Clapton guitars made? I won't be able to take it apart to check out the body unless I buy it.

I attached a copy of the certificate of authenticity, does it look real?

What's a good price to pay for it if it's a Franken-strat (Clapton neck, USA standard body) 8/10 condition? What would you value a used custom shop Clapton neck? Also, are there any fake custom shop Clapton guitars?

Thank you!

100% fake; not even a Fender.

+1

Pickguard is not the stock 1-ply 8-hole you might expect from an EC Custom, neck has a square heel as opposed to the round type joint (Mighty Mite or Warmoth?).

The COA is also fake.
