Hey all,

I ran across a unique custom shop guitar today on /r/guitar that the owner isnt sure what it is. Ive tried to guide the owner through finding the serial number but they are unable to find one. The only history I know on the guitar is that her father purchased it from Sam Ash before she was born and that it is a limited CS run (3 of 12). The color scheme and headstock is simply gorgeous. Here are some pics:

Any help or information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

May be some help......or not.....

Thanks for the Image ChromeFace!

Jimmy_James - Its close but not quite. The moto on the otherhand is an amazing looking guitar! From what I understand the Moto was limited to 250 pieces where this particular guitar is limited to 12. Ive even saved the pic of the headstock and tried to use a google image search and it returned nothing. Im wondering if this was a promotional limited run for Sam Ash or something along those lines.

Hi there I am not talking about the white moto set.
Do a search on Guitar amplifier review line 6 spider and fender strat and you will see a guitar with a similar headstock.. :D

Not all Moto Strats came with a matching head, their latest incarnation (such as this J.W. Black Masterbuilt) was presented with Vintage Noiseless pickups, a custom 2-point vintage-style bridge and a 1-piece abalone inlaid maple neck with 22 medium jumbo frets and Schaller locking machineheads.

Yep Butterscotch that is the guy I was talking about too. He has a few clips up using that strat and in the one I mentioned he called it a mid 90s. Not that definitive I know but surely a partial careful disassembly would reveal some dating.... :D

It's a Motohead, mine is 9 of 12 - I still have the signed certificate of authenticity. It's black with the Texas special pickups as well - the birdseye maple neck is really smooth and fast

Hi - I can help with this as I have that same guitar in Black. In fact that is me playing it in the video that someone posted a few posts up from this one - I'm David T. from Next Level Guitar. Anywho, - this particular guitar is called a Motohead Strat and was made by Fender Custom Shop. They made only twelve of these guitars in four colors - 12 in Black, 12 in Red, 12 in Green, and I am not sure of the 4th color - may have been white. But only 12 in each color and thats it. These motohead strats are very cool because they have the mother of pearl on the headstock laid over a painted headstock, the pick guard and the backplate are also mother of pearl. Plus they came stock with Texas Special pickups, and the treble knob pulls in/out for a treble boost that is very cool - gives you some additional tonal options. Most of these custom shop guitars, if not all, had birds eye maple necks and mine is flamed birds eye and quite awesome! I bought mine new in 1995 and I am actually thinking of selling it. They are pretty rare guitars as you hardly ever see them come up on Ebay and they only made 12 of each in four colors. Mine is all stock and I have the original case and all the case candy - when you bought it new it came with a certificate of authenticity, some cool custom picks, polishing cloth, set up/owners manual, and a leather type strap. I have all that stuff plus the original case. I get all kinds of questions from my students and when i play the guitar live at shows always on the headstock as Fender rarely had a painted headstock guitar with the pearled headstock cover, its quite a conversation piece - pretty neat.
If anyone is interested in the guitar I can email you pics - drop me an email at dtdminor2007@yahoo.com - hope this info helps - its a great guitar, I just have too many guitars at this point in time and have to thin the heard a bit. Rock on! -David T
