I noticed the new cs delux Strats are made of okoume wood. Can anyone tell me what this wood is like tone wise? I tried googling it and couldn't find anything. Thanks.

Supposedly similar in tonal properties to maple with a nice grain like mahogany.
Sounds like an unusual combo ... Maple top with aucoumea body...not that I would probably be able to tell. :?
Thanks Wiki! :D

On paper at least it's reminiscent of Alder but slightly different. It is approximately 10 percent stiffer than alder, which means it's damping coefficient is lower (meaning that it will have a fuller frequency response), it is however also somewhat softer meaning unless a hard top is used some of those frequencies will dissappear (in this respect it's similar to basswood being stiffer, but softer than alder). I think that with a nice 3/8+ inch top(maple, bubinga, figured birch) or similar you will have a guitar that weighs the same as an alder guitar, but has a somewhat fuller tone, with a touch of brightness on top. (this is what I think from mechanical data, the actual grain stucture of the wood etc also has something to do with tone so... I'd go listen to a guitar made from it and then make up my mind (: just as you should do with everything instrument.). All in all it seems fit for instrument making, but I'd want it with a denser harder top on because of it's softness.

Since the CS uses okoume for their Custom Deluxes, why not using other exotic woods such as jelutong (mamywo)?
