Things are already moving along. Matthew Brown (Custom Care rep) has already emailed me a shipping label. It will most likely be Friday before I get the bass to FedEx. I work tomorrow.....late afternoon set up and sound check.....play a gig tomorrow night.
First night of a 3 nighter....whoo....hoo! Love a long weekend of gigs. :D

Also...thanks brotherdave and oxfan. They have both been great at supporting me through all this. Gotta love the brotherhood of musicians.

Hmmmm, seems I'm coming to the party late again. I've known about this from the very start as ghro50 and I are friends. In my usual foaming at the mouth mentality, i wanted him to post about the nonsense he went through a lot sooner. Glad to see brotherdave was involved as he is usually the voice of reason. Some people are just laid back and reasonable, i can't relate to that.

I'm always amazed when people give brotherdave grief. He is a major authority on the subject of bass guitars and has helped more people than anyone I know. On a personal note, I have to say, he has been the major influence in my becoming the bass guitarist that I always wanted to be.

O.K., enough of that, back to the subject. As far as Custom Shop instruments, I've never had any desire to even play one. Having spent the last six years re-inventing myself, I've played a whole lot of basses and I've found the American Standard to be my favorite of them all. I never had one in my hands that wasn't great. Maybe there's an oddball out there that wasn't perfect but in my experience, they're the best bang.

Rob, thanks for getting this issue straightened out, it's good to know that Fender has people that are willing to take an interest in customer satisfaction. In a "throw away" word, that's rare.

Regarding earlier comments, I only have Fender, and will only have Fender. To me they're the best and always will be.

And I have to say, I hate being right all the time. :D

Maybe I should have created a thread about this when it all happened. I'm one that believes you tell it like it is....good or bad. We can all learn from each others experiences.

But the main reason I didn't is because so many will view it as me bashing Fender and will question my honesty. That is what burns me more than anything. I mean if anyone is willing to question brotherdave's integrity, they'll have a field day with me. Those kinds of post do not accomplish anything.

Of course I realize that anyone can be who they want to be on the internet and post anything they want, but I don't fall in that catagory and I don't think most of us do.

Fender builds great basses, but they also can turn out a lemon. It happens. That doesn't bother me. It's what is done about it when it happens. I thought I was covered with Custom Care on issues like I experienced. Thanks to this forum and Rob it turns out that I am. But the first go round with this issue was completely different and very disheartening.

Hopefully this thread will inform people of what could possibly happen and guide them somewhat on how to deal with it if it does. That's what it's all about.....helping each other. There are good people on here that will do just that....if you let them.

You're just too sane, reasonable and rational! While these are admirable traits, where's the fun in that? :D

I realize now why i never saw this thread. i never came here before. now for you who love their Custom Shop guitars and basses, go for it, I'm happy for you. It's an ultimate Fender and in my book that's great.

I'm looking forward to hearing the good news that your bass is back home and better than ever.

Makes me smile to see a CS backing up an American Standard.

There are plenty of people that know me well and will argue that with you.
I guess I have mellowed as the years have gone by. I use to not be this way, but I never got far jumping down peoples throats. Short term gratification yes, long term not so much.
My Dad use to drive me crazy because he never would give me a quick answer. Always had to think about it first. I guess I have finaly inherited that trait.

I hope so too.

I will admit that the Am Stnd isn't as smooth or easy playing as the FCS, but it's not too far behind.
The pups aren't as hot either, but we are talking passive vs active. Not as much variation in sound, but by design the Jazz is suppose to have a variety and the 3 band EQ just adds to that.
The p-bass does have a tone control, but it's really a one trick pony that will fit in about any genre of music. After all, it is the bass that started it all.
So yeah, I'm a passive p-bass kind of guy at heart and the Am Stnd will remain my #1 gigging bass even after I receive the FCS back from Custom Care.
