I am getting the bug for a custom shop strat, and have played one or two locally, I really like the neck on the EJ Strat, which I think they refer to as a soft V, most of the Custom Shop Strats I have seen locally seem to be more like baseball bat neck (C shape??). Are there any Custom Shop Strats with more of a soft v neck??

The custom classic comes with either a C or soft V neck. There are others too. Take a look at the Custom Shop website.

Fender offered a 'hard' V= in the early years. The '58 saw the introduction of the 'soft-V'. Having owned one, I can tell you that it has continued to the present day as the standard V-neck, and that is not what you played on the EJ. Play an American Deluxe V-neck, or a Jimmy Vaughan as an example.

You also have to consider neck radius as well because that relates to the 'flatness' of the fingerboard. The '58 neck radius was 7.5. The EJ is a 12 and the neck flows into the headstock differently. The generic radius these days is 9.5, which is that on the JV.

Fender will build your heart's desire to suit, if you care to design an instrument to your own specifications, and as long as it does not come up against any contract agreements it may have with artists.

All you need is the patience to wait out the build, and the paid-in-full up front to start.

Stay in touch.
