Hi All
I have just bought the above strat 2nd hand , no fret wear, quite a light relic. Neck has no relicing except very slight wear on edge of maple where it meets the rosewood fingerboard , this wear is between the first and fifth fret top and bottom. I have only had a few days but I notice in this same area the nitro is very sticky and I mean very, I can feel the nitro pulling of in little tiny balls under my hand and the wear area is growing rapidly.
Now I know that nitro does show wear , but should it really be this quick and should it be really sticky. It is defo not dirt or anything like that. It is the nitro coming off, does this sound correct to you guys and even if it is ,can I do anything to stop it.

2005 Custom Shop 65 relic serial no. R22463

Many Thanks
Mike

One of the drawbacks of a second hand guitar is that you don't know what the previous owner may have done/used!
Personally, I would give it a good rub-down and polish with a micro-fibre cloth, and continue to do so regularly!

Hi
Thanks for posting , I really do not think that the guitar has had anything done to it . the frets are unmarked , it had had very little use . Are you saying to just use a cloth with no polish , will this stop the nitro coming off?

Thanks
Mike

I used to put polish on my necks. Guitar polish, or even car polish sometimes, but now that there's micro-fibre cloths available, I just wipe and polish with those only! It can be quite hard to polish initially as there is a lot of "drag" for want of a better word, but if you keep polishing it will get smoother and slicker!
This is what works for me, but many players have different solutions for "sticky neck syndrome" and you may well get other replies here with different suggestions...including talcum powder! :)
