Hi,

Can anybody tell me what Strat John Mayer plays in the Battle Studies Expanded Edition DVD? The guitar in question is a three tone sunburst with black plastic parts and a large headstock and is briefly featured in the trip to Japan section (a.o. 45m34sec, 47m54sec).

B.

The guitar in question was a Masterbuilt '70 Strat Relic from Yamano Music, trying to recall who built it. Either Krause, Kendrick or Fessler

Thanks very much for the information Chanman!

At first I thought it was an original, but then I started to notice all these little things that didn't make sence... a 1970 logo with a bullet truss rod adjustment which came after 1970, then a 4 bolt neck.... 22 frets... late seventies all black plastics... Then I just had to know what it was. I think the instrument looks great.

Nope, but really, sourcing of pictures and film is your speciality, chromeface.

The only 70's Strat I saw John playing was "Rosie".

The only information I got from the Internet says the guitar in question was built by John Cruz.
Unfortunately I'm unable to find a shot of this particular axe.

Could have been Cruz, but the run the particular guitar is from was from a Yamano-exclusive run, and other axes in the run were done by those 3. I had a link to the guitar's listing on their site a long time ago, not sure where I put it though.

Yes sir... probably because it looked good with the jacket. 8)

Obviously, EC's personal Bellezza Nera is better equiped with mother of pearl tuning key buttons.

Speaking of Bellezza Nera, I've noticed that EC brought that black beauty for the rest of his 2013 tour (he used his "main" D28 on certain songs during the Phoenix gig in 14/03).
