Yet there remains about 3mm of space between the rout and the mass block. Not so in the original. You've seen the Christies photo. Interesting.

As an update, I adjusted the claw screws and the wooden block is now tight between the Trem Block and wall. However, given that I had to loosen the claw screws the claw is no longer tight to the body as discussed above.

I now have the interesting situation where the White Custom has the claw tight to the body and the wooden block firm vs the Mercedes Custom haveing a loose claw and the wooden block firm to the body.

I don't think this will make any diffence in the sound but in order to get the wood "locked" into place I had to loosen the claw away from the guitar on the Mercedes.

I took the time and did a nice side by side comparison of the guitars. I did notice a few slight differences in the neck feel and sound when not plugged in.

Again, great site and happy to have signed up. I think I'm going to add a Black Custom Clapton very soon and complete the set of three.

If you consider Eldred's commentary on neck and body woods {Custom Shop Website] no two guitars could be expected to resonate exactly the same.

Just occurred to me...

I still have the pictures of the Midnight Blue EC Strat (presumably a '96 Kendrick?) bought by 'drew' from FDP (an actual EC cast-off, complete with the glue finish neck). It has the wooden block in it.
