hi,

The other part is closed so I don't really have a choice but to post this here, although it's rather meant for Mike or someone from the CS staff.

I placed an order for a Greg Fessler '62 Strat a little over a year ago, and in October of last year, I had the pleasure of talking to Greg about the guitar. He told me it should take about a month for it to be ready but it's not the point, I don't mind the wait at all.

The problem is, over the last few months, I sent him three (very straight forward, easy to answer) e-mails and never got a reply, so I thought he was too busy for e-mails and tried to call him several times (just did 2 minutes ago actually). Still nothing, only the answering machine.

We are talking about a $6k order.
Now, correct me if I am wrong but about a third of that amount is the Masterbuilt fee, which is supposed to include direct contact with the Master Builder and maybe a few updates, at least that's what I thought.

I mean, I really don't mind if the guitar takes another 6 months to be ready.
But I would at least like to know if it's taking the right direction as far as the relic'ing goes, or if he got the e-mail where I am asking for a blonde case with red interior, that kind of stuff... it's not much I think.

I am not complaining, and I am sure Greg is extremely busy. I just would like to understand why it's so hard to get a single update when all the people I know who placed a custom MB order got frequent updates about their guitar.
I mean, I even remember someone posting a pic of the freshly sprayed body for his Shishkov Tele.

Thanks in advance.

Try to call earlier in the day, if you can. All of the guys there start very early (by European standards) and I think that Greg may be a particularly "early bird."

Obviously I can't guarantee results. It's just my impression of work patterns at the shop.

You are absolutely right about that, it's the first thing he told me, so tomorrow I'll try calling around 2 or 3pm (in France) as it's around the time it was when I first spoke to him. We'll see :)

if you are having spec changes, maybe also communicate with the dealer you placed your order with.

i know, for us, a lot of the draw is the interaction with the builder but they do have a lot to prioritize, including the actual 'building'. i oont think that fender would say the primary value-add of the premium is ongoing builder interaction.

i was actually speaking to someone close to the CS and they were saying they were going to have more handled through the dealers to optimize the MB's time. it seemed like a reasonable thing to do.

It worked! Got Greg on the phone very easily, thanks for the great advice man.

Definitely, but it's the only way to make sure the primary idea will actually become your dream guitar.
I am not talking about weekly updates of course, but part of the reason people go for a custom MB order despite the long wait is because you can talk about all the details, make a few changes, and know that in the end you are going to get exactly what you had in mind.

The guitar should be ready next month, so I am guessing June... Just kidding. Will keep you guys posted. Thanks!

Hey Chandler! how are you man?

Still playing the hell out of your Fessler Strat or did the pink one take over? :)

How is that Cruz project coming along?

I am spec'ing out another Strat and I am thinking of placing the order with either him or Todd this time, will have to check the wait times though.

Thanks Alain!

Actually it's CFM (or so I hope, otherwise it will have to take a trip back to the CS), although I'll admit it does look less dark and more blue than what I expected.

I did some research though and CFM seems to change a lot depending on lighting, and I saw a few CFM Strat's that looked like this one.

I know it usually comes with a white undercoat but I guess they didn't put it on because of the color over color thing.

I look forward to seeing photo's when your guitar arrives. Nothing like having a Fender guitar in your collection. :D

Hey man! I'm good, been super busy. Jam-packed summer tour being planned, two sold out shows at SXSW last month, and loads of new songs! The guys also got a new updated site with some new song clips as well as pre-ordering of the new EP - http://www.newhollow.com

Shelly has been my main axe alongside Ol' Blue, but I have recently returned to playing the Red one after I swapped out the JB for an original '86 MJ-wound Duncan Distortion. It kills now. Those 3 along with my new '58 Duo Sonic are going to be my main workhorses.

Haha I've been back and forth with Cruz about it, I wouldn't be able to exactly replicate that Levi's Strat which is a bummer, but I'll see what we can cook up when we put our heads together. Gotta see what his Wait Time is too.
