If you're interested in replacing pickups, then check out on YouTube how Fender pickups sound like. From various pickups you can find best ones that fit your playing. Check out Tex Mex, Custom fat 50's, Custom 54', Custom 69', Texas special ones, or Seymour Duncan Hot Road

lukehon,

For the purpose of John mcgowan Youtube is poor sound source for choosing pu ( or any sound equipement ) + poor PC speakers. Lost of too many frequency.

The only way ; Live

+1

YouTube audio sucks. Highly compressed with poor frequency response.

Gold Laces were designed to replicate a vintage strat tone. They differ from conventional pickups in their transduction designed. Given the dating of your guitar, I'd agree with the others.

"Smooth and sustained" to me suggests a kind of mild-moderate overdrive I usually associate with blues guitar. I've certainly been able to do that with gold Lace sensors running through a Proco RAT distortion box. If that's the kind of stuff you're playing a pickup swap doesn't seem necessary.

Thank guys for your input. I like a smooth , sustained sound, like mike oldfield. So what I have is my strat plus with the gold lace pick ups, a Blackstar S45 combo , a stompbox with Boss comp/sustainer, dd3 delay, and some chorus as well. This is the closest to that smooth sustained sound I can get without alot of distortion. What do you think ? :?

I think you may have to start playing stomp box roulette to find your shangri-la, if you are not totally satisfied with your signal chain at present. I don't feel its a hotter pickup that you need. I'm thinking something like a RAT or a TS-9 at this point.

The "humbucking" Gold-Gold duallies add some PAF warmth into the mix. These humbuckers were Jeff Beck's long-time favorites until 2001.

Hot Golds do retain the quality of regular Golds, except they're slightly hotter and more midrangey.

Or a built-in onboard preamp housed on the guitar.
