Ducan makes a variety of single coils for 7 strings. They are not cheap, though.

Just drop the other foot and throw an extra three strings on it.

Also, how cool a job must Russ NG have had? Just coming p with cool new guitar designs.

This one is pretty cool, reminds me of the Leads.

Interesting update. A.R.Duchossoir's history of the signature series puts Gregory in his proper place. Between that and this article stands the yet unanswered question:
'What happened" How come Vai and the Ibanez Jem 7, and not Fender and the Alex Gregory Signature Series? Perhaps....too much to soon. An artist before his time?

Why did Fender miss out on supplying the 7 string market?

I was told that it was due to legal difficulties with Alex Gregory. Maybe he wouldn't license his patents. Maybe they were afraid he'd sue them if they tried to put out a 7 string without his name (and not giving him a cut).

That's why I was surprised to see the recent story about Alex on the website.
Alex is certainly "out there." He's such fringe element, I am amazed that he can make a living at it ...

Fender put out a bunch of 7-strings at the height of the 7-string trend (late '90s). They were branded Squier Showmasters and Squier Stagemasters.

I remember those, but they were "late in coming to the party."
Maybe calling them Squier and Showmaster were the loopholes in the legal problems ... they couldn't call them Fender or Stratocaster ...

my "info" on Fender 7 strings came from 1991 when I inquired about getting one made ...

The Custom Shop has built a 7-string Showmaster with dual Duncan humbuckers and a stoptail bridge a decade ago (circa 1999-2000). This short-lived guitar was produced only for 2 years and discontinued shortly after.
