Just curious, for people who have been fortunate to OWN guitars from both of these great guitar makers, what are the pros and cons of each, I am particularily interested in the models which try to copy/reproduce their classic vintage models. What have you found from owning these fine instruments, any particular favorite models?

This is not intended to be a Fender vs Gibson thread,

Thanks

Ray

The problem I have with Gibson's Custom Shop is they don't make basses. Guitars only. I'd love a custom reissue '63 T-Bird if Gibson would make one.

On the other hand, my experience with Fender's Custom Shop has been really positive. My '59 P-Bass is the best playing P-Bass I've ever owned, and when I had a question and called Fender's Custom Shop customer service, they got right back with me and were very helpful.

So in my experience, it's Fender 1, Gibson 0.

Gibson Custom Shop: nobody knows what happens inside and who's doing what.
A One-Off you forget as any substantial modification from the basic catalog.
The quality might be really good (mostly in the past) or terrible: it's a lottery with a lot of Friday afternoon guitars.
An example: I ordered an SG Custom finish in Ivory intead of Alpine white, guess what: they oversprayed an Alpine White into Ivory and now, because of too much lacquer, the guitar is getting cracked badly at the neck joint..
With fender there is a wide variety of possibilities and if you order a One-Off Masterbuilt, your dream comes true some time later (much later..)and after reducing your saving account to nil.
Fender :90
Gibson:10
I know, I own both...

I owned a new '58 reissue custom shop Les Paul. I wasn't allowed to put on a stand because of the finish. The guy that sent it to me was worried @™**less in case the neck snapped. So I worried about the neck snapping. The neck doesn't unbolt. I part ex-ed it for my master built Strat.

Alain: You are soooooooooo funny!!! What a chuckle you gave me.....with your collection!!!!

So now the question becomes.....how long do these people have to save to realize YOUR dream???

Have a great day!

Humm.....

Depends of various factors such as:
-Your income
-your expenses
-your marital status
-your age
-your interest on guitars
-not to put all your eggs in the same basket

I'll turn 63 next month.....

I just bought a used LP. It was in bad need of a fret job so I had it refretted and Pleked. It plays amazing now!! I will definitely get all of my guitars pleked at some point.
